Twitter’s official statement on this is one for the history books:

https://mobile.twitter.com/Policy/status/1349059275461685250

That's Facebook. Twitter has no such policy.

>It's news to me that that users are not allowed to mention other social networks' accounts on Twitter anymore.

Isn't that a mischaracterization though? The new policy they announced, as far as I've seen, only applies if the account is "solely" promoting other brands. [0]

> Specifically, we will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.

EDIT:

The tweet linked seems to be the mischaracterization and not this take.

Reading the full policy[1] does say that, while their tweets don't.

Alas.

Since I made this comment, Twitter announced their new Third Party Social Media policy, and it looks terrible and unnecessary.

Which is not actually a Twitter policy....

>Twitter now disables likes, replies, and retweets if a tweet has Substack links

>Twitter is now marking Substack links as unsafe

There's a remote possibility it's the Twitter policy he's linked in his tweet:

Archive: <https://web.archive.org/web/20221218173806/https://help.twit...>

Which is bad, because the supposed policy has a specific media exemption.

Has the developer shared anything about the earlier conversation on policy violations? I just see https://mobile.twitter.com/jasonrohrer/status/14331194531186... which is the (not very interesting) step escalating from "you're violating policies" to "you're kicked off".

Twitter has released a statement on the issue: http://blog.twitter.com/2012/07/our-approach-to-trust-safety...

What I don't understand: they posted a second tweet that directly contradicts that rules and policies document.

> We still allow cross-posting content from any social media platform. Posting links or usernames to social media platforms not listed above are also not in violation of this policy.

Explicit threats: https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/91178931416982323...

Problematic enough that Twitter had to issue a statement on why they didn't take action on it: https://twitter.com/Policy/status/912438046515220480

This is stunning.

What is a violation of this policy?

At both the Tweet level and the account level, we will remove any free promotion of prohibited 3rd-party social media platforms, such as linking out (i.e. using URLs) to any of the below platforms on Twitter, or providing your handle without a URL:

  Prohibited platforms:

  - Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Post and Nostr
  - 3rd-party social media link aggregators such as linktr.ee, lnk.bio
  - Examples:
    - “follow me @username on Instagram”
    - “username@mastodon.social”
    - “check out my profile on Facebook - facebook.com/username”

Does this mean that Twitter is now not to be trusted?

Clickbait title. Photos and videos marked sensitive are still allowed (how it has always worked).

The actual policy without the editing of the blog spam.

>When a Tweet has this notice placed on it, it will feature less prominently on Twitter, and not appear in:

>Safe search >Timeline when switched to Top Tweets >Live events pages >Recommended Tweet push notifications >Notifications tab >Explore

Getting out in front of the 2020 election, I see. Better conform to Twitter's code of conduct if you want to maximize reach!

Edit: Good time to get to know who will be making the decisions on throttling exposure- do not cross these groups! https://about.twitter.com/en_us/safety/safety-partners.html

Right. I have no idea what it is about. Just guessing twitter changed their policy or sth.

Twitter has basically the same policy
