I tested this one and a lot of others, including the Teslas and polestar 2. The Ionic 5 was the one i was most satisfied with, it’s really spacious, has excellent range, vehicle to grid and even camping mode. With the on-screen rear mirror cameras addon, it’s really hard to beat.
Unfortunately, i had to cancel my booking after the energy crisis became too severe..
I test drove an ioniq 5. Nice to drive. The console display is a bit naff in that important parts (speed) is hidden by the steering wheel and I had to adjust the wheel. The salesperson thought you could move the speed but couldn't figure it out.
However, my daughter said the middle back seat where she usually sits was uncomfortable. I tested a Kia ev6 too and she thought that was comfy and it drives slightly nicer as I guess it's lower to the ground.
I have no idea about the IONIQ 5 in terms of performance.I cannot afford it but boy is it a cool futuristic looking car. Love the design and the looks .
I should check it out - thanks for the pointer. I don’t like the body on the Ioniq 5, so I’m interested in an option with a different body, although I’d prefer real leather seats.
The Volt was the other serious contender for me (especially given that I live in a state that doesn't generally get the electric vehicles).
Ultimately, it was trunk space that made me choose the Prime. We have one car and occasionally go camping and having more storage in the car was more important than the fifth seat or longer electric range.
A bit off topic, but how are you liking the Ioniq 5?
I'm on a "2 year waiting list" with my local dealer for an Ioniq 5. It has 200 people on the list, and he got 8 years in the last year. Still a "2 year waiting list" though, even if you've been on it a year already.
I’ve driven a polestar 2 as a rental for a day and I cannot agree. Comfort was fine, a bit more cushy but nothing night and day. Interior is subjective and I thought the excessive use of cloth textiles was unlikely to wear well. Handling seemed… fine? I’m not driving this on a track, so both vehicles seemed adequately responsive.
Also, the infotainment with android automotive was pretty underwhelming. I was hoping it’d be nicer in some useful way, but it just felt like android auto if you stuck all the vehicle controls in android auto too…
2016 hyundai ioniq here. (subjectively the best car ever.) Hopefully I got it just before "connected cars" were mainstream. Hopefully that changes someday :(
The Ioniq 6 definitely has my attention, especially the N-line variant they were showing to the press a few months back. This is the kind of thing that will pull me away from sporty ICE cars for sure.
