I wonder if the same people who are angry about this were angry when the NY Post got their account banned.

They already banned the New York Post for content they didn’t like.

Strange to see this modded down. This was a milestone in many ways in the area of online citizen journal. This letter itself is kind of groundbreaking. Rarely does a media company write a full-throated apology letter, and almost never for the actions of users/readers who break their rules. I doubt we'll ever get any such apology from the New York Post

The NYPOST was banned for 16 days over this story. It was suppressed for 16 days, not one day.

Considering that this is NYPost, its quite possible. I don't really consider NYPost to be a very respectable institution.

In the past they would come to NYT and give it money to manipulate people, now they come to Facebook, so NYT is naturally mad at that.

Yes definitely, I was on mobile earlier otherwise I would have. The New York Post had a major story censored a few weeks ago. I have no love for the NYP (I think they sensationalize news), but they are not some scummy right wing conspiracy machine. I pretty much agree with Glenn Greenwald here: https://theintercept.com/2020/10/15/facebook-and-twitter-cro...

They also suspended an account of a sitting state senator in Pennsylvania who was holding a hearing on alleged election fraud: https://www.ntd.com/twitter-suspends-account-of-state-senato...

I wonder how NYT feels about this.

I'm waiting to see if the NY Times tells me I should be outraged by this.

Twitter took down the New York Posts twitter account. 4th biggest newspaper in the country.

Did they? Where did they try to get NY Post to take the original article down?

Someone's upset at the NYT

From my recollection, twitter blocked NYP from posting until they took down a post with the link to their laptop article, which NYP refused to do.

They're not passive

NY Post has always been trash and will always remain trash

I guess the NY Post doesn't believe in free speech after all...

This looks like the work of a false flagger trying to make NYPost look bad or to spread fake news to gullible left/center voters, or just a vandalizing troll, rather than someone trying to use NYPost's reach to spread a message the author believes in.

A sign of respect, but the NYpost was never given that option and immediately went into suppression, and it did not turn out to be false information.

Meanwhile, CNN and NYTIMES post content and retract it in higher amounts, and they never were surpressed, locked out of their account or even had twitter force to fix "itself" by now agreeing that they'd "wouldn't" remove content but now just "flag it."

That, is not respect, that is an alliance.

That’s the amazing thing. The NYPost article was making the rounds Wednesday night and it was mostly crickets.

Twitter bans any posts about it and now it’s taking off like a firestorm.

nytimes.com angered me (a fan of nyt) when this was their top story on the front page yesterday.

Wrong. They suspended linking to the story for 24 hours - a story that had very shady sourcing and which the New York Post did not even put an author's name on.

The previous management was hardly better. They banned the New York Post for daring to break the Hunter Biden laptop story.
