He would make a lot more if not ppl blantly copycat’ing him and his work.

Primitive Life, Primitive Tools, Primitive Technology Ideas…

Youtube should take those channels down or force them to change name due to how SOE works.

But there is a way for the primitive technology channel to be monetized. For him to gain recognition, as opposed to him just building his wooden houses in isolation. Without anyone knowing. It is not as if he's unaware of people making millions off of youtube(or being famous, whatever), or the internet. We can't separate youtube no matter how "primitive" the action being filmed is. He may be doing it out of pure love, but if it was true love, why does he feel the need to film it? To help others? Why do any of us need to know how to do this, and how does a video help? He most likely got good at building a log house from building hundreds of shitty log houses from before.

Not sure if the copycats would focus on the aspects I am interested in. I didn't really watch his video that has 500k views, where he celebrated his success. I am interested in the other ones where he does his work. Those only have between 1k and 50k views.

Agreed. YouTube is profiting from his malfeasance.

I am NOT suggesting this guys stop making things since it's just him and he's new, and likely to improve, I'm just calling out what I see.

But I AM caning calling out millions of Youtube generations ago seem to live in a bubble of mediocrity and have no idea what a single person can create, let alone over 15 years ago per my example.

Then there are refreshing youtube channels like "Primitive Technology" where he never says a word and manages to end up with 9.5 million subscribers...

I think he is easily one of the smartest people on YouTube and is producing some of the very best videos. He is also a brilliant educator. For examples, his videos on special [1] and general relativity [2] were real eye-openers for me, even though I have studied physics and have seen this stuff explained a million times before.

What I really don't like are the new video titles. At some point he started A/B testing them to maximize his revenue. He even made a video about it [3]. Of course, this selects for the most outrageous clickbait in order to get that sweet engagement. I am starting to wonder if he took into account, how much this is starting to alienate long-term followers.

And then notice what a tiny fraction of views his original content gets: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn-K7GIs62ENvdQe6ZZk9-w

Conclusion: >90% of the value fot audiences lies in the original source material rather than his enjoyable remixes of same.

These days youtube would ban him.

>After reading this article I wonder if there are MacGyver-esque influences on younger generations?

Just type "Lifehack" into youtube and search. Extremely low signal to noise ratio in videos made with monetization above all else. It's quite tragic.

A counterexample would be colinfurze[0] who makes very entertaining and inspiring videos. Apart from being a two legged OSHA violation his content is top notch. [0]: https://www.youtube.com/user/colinfurze

That makes no sense. We're not talking about a commodity that's for sale and thus, loses its market value as the market becomes saturated by Chinese knock-offs and look-a-likes. It's more than just a show for the mindless consumption of viewers on social media. Primitive Technology videos came from his own personal interest and love for the art of craftsmanship itself, thus, his videos have not lost any of their value, as his motives and drive were never commercial to begin with.

It's your option to eat fast-food, but in no way does that devaluate high end cuisine.

edit: typo

Some people might get a stronger emotional attachment to his channel because his name is unique and personal. Versus just another channel called "CodingStocks" or some bs like that.

Matthias Wandel posted this a while ago, he didn't censor the number of views or earnings (apparently YouTube doesn't like people doing that): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXYd4aZOhJ0

His main channel is about wood-working: https://www.youtube.com/@Matthiaswandel and he has another one where he tinkers with stuff: https://www.youtube.com/@matthiasrandomstuff2221

So he expects people to submit an idea for a chance that it will be made fun of on youtube? Its easy to bash, he should also share which company he thinks was the best.

True, can't think of much else this popular.

He started posting videos again recently with some regularity after a lull. Audience is in the low hundreds of thousands. I assume fewer than 100k actually finish videos and fewer still do anything with it.

Hobby electronics seems surprisingly small in this era.

Yeah well that's not much for being one of the most informed (in tech, history and politics) and kick-ass creators on the net.

A really great channel.

Shame on you Youtube!

He got upset a while ago because someone else started making a similar style of OP-1 videos (Top down, subtitles, wooden desk) which he felt was theft of his creative property.

He's a quite well-known professional Minecraft YouTuber with 3 million subscribers. This copyright claim means for all these videos the company making the claim now gets a share of his income. Given he makes game videos, many of those videos do not even contain music outside the intro tune, which he's been using for years and licensed from the creator.

If you actually watched his videos you would have seen the one where he actively calls out that a lot of his viewers aren't interested in the product at all and just want to see another high production value video from him just to kill time, with no intention of ever buying anything.

"The entertainment you would watch" would probably amount to nothing and you probably wouldn't even finish the video, because it would be too boring.

Indeed. If his videos are unacceptable, YT should have taken them down. If they're acceptable, then they should give him his money.
