I think this one is pretty key. For the first couple years when AirBnB started, they were almost always cheaper than hotels, even for whole places. Of course, a lot of that was their fees were lower and they weren't paying taxes. I can almost find better deals at hotels now.
It's interesting to see how the Airbnb market has evolved. I used to always hear that "Airbnb is cheaper", but lately when booking trips I've been able to find better deals in hotels.
I agree that in some markets the airbnb prices are close cheap hotels. From my experience, I used to use Airbnb in Paris (France) and for the past 2 years, I ended up in an hotel, since it was cheaper.
Now, hotels pricing is way more flexible when it comes to react to low demand. Airbnb hosts, do not adjust as well or as quickly to the seasonal (even week day vs. weekend) nature of hospitality.
Airbnb is not always the cheaper option vs. hotels.
I consistently stay in hotels for a good portion of the year and I rarely find AirBnbs cheaper nowadays. Really the only time I stay in one is when I want to rent a big house with a large group of friends or am in a remote area that doesn't really have hotels.
When I started using Airbnb it definitely was more affordable than hotels
Now a days I almost always book hotels instead - especially for 1-2 day visits - as it always tends to be cheaper, less complications, and offer more value imo
As a counter to that, I don't know the last time I stayed in an AirBNB and it was cheaper than a local hotel. Rather I was forced into it by people I was traveling with.
AirBnB used to be a cheap stay. Now it's often not. Many hosts charge the equivalent of an extra night as a "service fee," pushing up the total price for the stay and making it harder to compare places on price.
We're booking a trip at the moment and finding in many locations we're better off booking a hotel - they're often cheaper, closer to public transport, we can leave bags at reception etc.
Exactly this. For one or two people, Airbnb isn't lot cheaper than hotels. The big win is when the traveling group is more than two people. That gets very expensive at hotels because you usually have to book more than one room.
Not anymore. They were cheaper, and then the prices crept up, and the quality got worse. Classic enshittification. I loved AirBnB 10 years ago, but I'm back to hotels now.
