Well they're doing a bad job at that then, since everyone knows that this is happening.

Jesus Christ, what's going on?

How can we counteract this? They absolutely deserve the bad publicity they're (or would be) getting!

They are criticizing through collective action. That is a news worthy thing.

That's the way the world is. People only seem to sit up and take notice of terrible things on occasion. The answer isn't to be critical of them taking notice now, but to use it to make them aware of the other terrible things the same group is also doing.

That might be true, but their act brings awareness and does pr damage which is something.

Or they are just addressing the hyped up outrage generated by certain people.

Every time I hear this kind of news, I'm reminded of a Reddit comment thread:

> > So what are they protesting?

> Lack of attention

Yes, this is literally what they’re achieving. It’s incredible that so many people on here don’t see it, but my guess is cause they’ve never actually looked into the people they’re displacing and negatively affecting.

Well they are doing it as signaling, not necessarily for good.

No, the latter is attempting to wash out the problem, removing the mention of the people most affected by it. It's transparent and reactionary.

People wanting to generate outrage about things that aren't actually happening.

I guess that they're currently focused on trying to raise awareness?

Why are they all doing it at the same time? To me, the appearance is that they are flouting any responsibility to the world.

Did you read the whole article? People are doing exactly what you're saying.

So I guess they're getting on the anti-bandwagon instead? Really transparent way to try to drive attention to themselves.

No, it’s not that bad, this is a PR move to pander to a specific politically oriented audience.

Meanwhile pissing a lot of people off, turning more against them and making it harder for their own propagandists. Seems like a net negative.

Part I dislike most is that all this publicity just increases their exposure and probably their profits too.

I don't see how you could stop people like this and can't help but wonder how much good the backlash is actually doing.

Who's been attacking this?

They're doing something about it? I saw some yesterday.
