In these threads I see a lot of RSS reader recommendations, but never the one I use, which is in fact the only personal software I pay for: https://bazqux.com
It started around when Google Reader shut down and had all the exact features Google Reader had. I migrated around 10 years and have been using it ever since. It's blazing fast, always available, and never changes. I just bought a lifetime subscription a few minutes ago because I plan to use it for another 10 years.
I am obligated to post a link to BazQux[0], which completely nails the RSS reading experience that Google Reader once had. It's absolutely worth the $20/yr subscription.
I am still amazed that it doesn't seem to get any discussion or attention whenever these "favorite RSS reader" threads come up.
Which RSS reader do you all use? RSS fell by the wayside for me after Google Reader was shutdown. I thought HN+Reddit+Twitter+Medium would replace it but I still find myself missing updates from several wonderful sites that don't update regularly.
As used by bazqux.com, an RSS reader; I've been trying it out for the last couple weeks, and so far the core functionality has been rock solid, unlike any of the multiplicity of other readers I've tried since Google Reader died. (Unfortunately, the site's design leaves a lot to be desired, including any mobile-friendly version at all...)
I've tried all the results of the diaspora of Google Reader and Bazqux is by far the best solution for pure RSS reading. It has a lightning fast super-clean web UI, updates very quickly, has a completely clean interface, and costs $9/year. Well worth it.
They offer a free trial if you want to try it out. I think it lasts 14 days.
Also it works with all the various RSS reader mobile apps; Press, Greader, Reeder, and Mr. Reader.
It does have a terrible name, though.
(Note: I don't get anything for this admittedly glowing endorsement. I'm just a satisfied customer.)
http://www.bazqux.com/ - I paid for a lifetime subscription a couple years ago and never looked back. The interface is great is both desktop and mobile, since it’s online everything is kept in sync across devices and I can configure the interface to my liking. I tried many RSS readers and nothing came close.
I'm a happy customer of https://bazqux.com. It is a paid RSS reader that seems to be developed by one guy. The web UI is very good, and it's supported by Reeder, an iOS news aggregator app I use.
What’s the best RSS reader service these days? I was a big user of Google Reader but never found something I liked after, that I could access from all my devices. It’s been a few years since I last asked, though.
Yes, Inoreader[0]. It's the one that was closest in functionality to Google Reader when it shut down. It's simple and cuts out the bullcrap. Though I've found I've been relying on RSS less these days, just because there are fewer sources I've cared to read from.
At the risk of sounding like a shill, have you tried Feedly? (feedly.com)
I switched over to it ages ago after the death of google reader, and it's held up remarkably well for me, and now also includes welcome features for, e.g., intaking email newsletters, conducting automatic content-specific web searches, etc into the same RSS-reader UI.
Dumb question, but is RSS still that much of a thing? I remember it being big 10+ years ago. Then Google reader shut down and I haven't given it much thought. Where would I find a good list of RSS feeds to try this out?
Haven't used Feedly, but I was a hardcore Google Reader user, and I _love_ BazQux Reader. It does exactly what I need - shows RSS, has APIs that allow mobile apps to hook in, is fast, and it _just works_. Totally worth the $20/yr, and I'm amazed more folks don't talk about it.
This was my favorite Google Reader alternative, mainly for its simplicity. It never seemed to get a lot of attention beyond maintenance, but it worked for the most part. Anyone have recommendations for web based RSS readers?
