US doesn’t need to be in Taiwan to fight the war. Taiwan can handle the ground fighting if it comes to that. The US will fight in air and sea, and Okinawa and Guam will be main bases. Taiwan itself will be too dangerous although US bases might be targets. If they can get through, better to send weapons than US troops.
The US has South Korea, Japan and Guam. Taiwan isn’t of military strategic importance to the US nor would it likely serve as a base for any assault on the mainland.
The US would not go to war and attack china over Taiwan. MAYBE They will fund Taiwan to attack. Maybe they will just put their troops there. And not fight. But they won’t go to war.
You are half right. The US will have to defend Taiwan otherwise we are done as a world power. Taiwan is not a push over. Any invasion would be seen way ahead of time. The Taiwan military is pretty dug in from the beaches to the mountains. They just need to make it painful enough and long enough for the US to bring its military might on target. Taiwan itself has the missile power to reach Shanghai and Beijing, and I have no doubt they would use it.
Do you think the American government is able to defend Taiwan right now?
With China about 100 miles from Taiwan, I don't see how anyone could get close without mass casualties. China has the shorter and more secure supply lines. They could send an invasion force using numerous small water vessels in waters they could easily defend. In the end, the losing side would just destroy all the important places in Taiwan.
The US defence of Taiwan is unfortunately just posturing. Should China commit to taking Taiwan they will do it. US military simulations have confirmed this again and again. Chinese military capability is strong enough to overwhelm the US Taiwan forces.
Defending Taiwan (and Japan) is one area where the US would do exceptionally well in any war. They have no rival on the sea (which is why they are continuously able to conduct their 'freedom of navigation' exercises right on Chinas door step).
Conversely, any land war in North Korea I feel would end disastrously for them - as it arguably did the first time around.
America is way too close to Taiwan with their bases in the ryukyus. They aren't technically in Taiwan, but any attack will involve them pretty quickly. Likewise, America stationed troops on the border of ROK and DPRK to act as a deadman switch. Those troops are quickly toast if any fighting breaks out, but it would ensure America's involvement in the successive war to come. Anyways, the USA's involvement in a war with China or North Korea via Taiwan or ROK is pretty much guaranteed.
The US isn’t giving up Taiwan- it’s the perfect opportunity to humiliate the CCP. China is in way over their heads if they actually believe they can achieve a naval landing on a fortified island without air superiority. It would be an absolute massacre.
Additionally, the US could simply embargo Chinese supply lines and dare them to engage.
Taiwan is actually very close to two very important US allies, the Philippines and Japan. It’s alot harder and more expensive to launch an attack from Luzon or Okinawa than it is to launch it from Taiwan.
The US may not need to land a force there, just ensure that China can't. Make sure Taiwan has enough missiles, subs, mines, etc to repel any PLA landing force, making it prohibitively expensive and embarrassing for China to attempt.
A Taiwanese war immediately means a naval blockade, the us won’t be able to lift it with any certainty. There is 0 interest in a hot war with China among Americans. I doubt we’ll see any American military action that could lead to a deployment other than naval.
That is correct. I'm talking about Taiwan defending itself. US air would come from Okinawa, Guam, and aircraft carriers parked outside China's hypersonic missile defense range (which, BTW, can travel that far only if they have a firing solution, which at such distances will be difficult to establish).
