No, it's the non-Maoist stuff that dang & HN mods censor.

If you call out neon hair safe space ("leftist") hypocrisy... your comment is flagged within minutes.

Yeah that’s upsetting and concerning. The mods can easily read my comment and see that there is nothing inflammatory or derogatory about it.

Very sad to see the level of censorship on HN. My comment was about how evil corps have co-opted and diverted rightful arguments of the left, and this gets censored.

Amazing

Sad seeing the parent comment getting flagged. Censorship by flagging a very real problem on HN, but from what I can tell its mainly the users abusing it not the mod team who are generally well-balanced.

HN is doing “filtering” more than “censorship” - there’s a setting that lets you see flagged comments (greyed out), so the filtering is almost completely transparent, it cannot really be called censorship.

HN is not overly censoring, but it [0] is very disapproving of overly divisive and flaming content. Also, HN is not one person. And the comment you linked is not even negative at the moment.

[0] In this case, both community and moderators.

Why has the truth about communism been censored in a thread about a communism-critical, satirical repo. Discussion is allowed, as long as the ugly parts aren't mentioned.

All comments in which the word 'socialism' appeared, are now [flagged] and [dead], therefore invisible for most users. And you still dare to argue that there is no far left political bias and manipulation on HN?

EDIT: I posted this comment and immediately refreshed the page. I took no more than 2 seconds, and this comment already had 0 points. No real user would be able to reload a discussion page, recognize a comment as a new, read it and downvote, all of this within 2 seconds after the comment was posted. I bet some bots do this, maybe this is even happening on the server side. Thank you for providing the best evidence for my words!

It's disturbing to see such praise for censorship, unless that comment was really crossing the line. (I didn't see it.) Proof that HN is as much of an echo-chamber as all the others, despite somewhat discussion that it isn't.

(...and meanwhile I get downvoted for making an observation.)

Srsly. On boingboing dissent is censored. Comment on the censoring is censored. And they're really mean about it too.

If a comment or post is particularly unpopular, it can get flagged here, even if it is perfectly civil.

Example: The problem with “doing your own research” https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31334034

Yes, there is censorship on HN, but it's typically enacted by users instead of mods.

I'm a little more concerned with what looks like a censorship practice of HN/ycombinator. Why are you not allowed to voice your opinion on strictly political issues? I understand guidelines, but this is crossing a line.

Not really. Perhaps slightly in how 'rude' you let people be, but none of that is censoring ideas or thoughts.

This comes down to the moderator I guess, an assumption is that they know how to distinguish the two.

^ do the mod's censor your comments? I'm seeing a trend on your account

I've not heard any claims of dissenting opinions censored by the mods here, but im sure its possible.

The fact that this entire sub-thread about censorship or attacks by leftists is greyed out supports the claim. They pretend to be righteous folks that have civilized discussions, weigh the evidence, support equality, etc. Then, they're trying to disappear the comments, jobs, or whatever of those that voice dissenting opinions. They're no different except the what and how of their preferences and attacks.

> I've been censored

No, you haven't. Yes, your comment has been downvoted on HN but that's not censorship.

Nope. It's "unpopular opinions" and censorship ;)

Hey, dang. I've sent a letter to hn@ycombinator.com 5 hours ago, questioning why my AskHN submission "Self-censorship on HN" has been flagged and blocked for further replies. Have you seen it by any chance? I'm really concerned about the issue.

> Do you really think we're suppressing discussion of the suppression of the phrase "communist bandits" from YouTube? I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a.

Also, can the suppression of https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23221264 (which missosoup is asking about) be connected with my "HN censorship" related comment in it: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23221622 ?

censorship is going on in the comments too

The mods especially don't 'arbitrarily censor' comments.
