"if brute force isn't working, you aren't using enough of it"

You just made my day with that phrase.

Sometimes brute force is good enough.

When in doubt - use brute force.

What do you mean by brute force? How would you even determine whether a solution is good?

Agreed. You can brute force, but not for long.

Brute force to a certain depth is still brute force.

That's not brute force; that's calling in the cavalry to do brute force for you.

Shouldn't bruteforce work?

The fact that it's just brute force is making this worse. Brute force scales.

I knew an old-time naval engineer who used to live by "If you've tried brute force and it didn't work, you just didn't use enough brute force"... ;-)

If you have something more clever than 2^256 operations, then that's not brute force.

I took two things away from my AI class.

1) If brute force doesn't work, you're not using enough.

2) Do the stupid thing first.

"other than actual brute-force"

Bruteforce has worked for me in the past. But maybe you're right, I'm going to try this one and see how it goes.

Brute forcing is hacking…
