Recent Toyotas (Yaris, CH-R, RAV4) were listed among the most buggy cars in Europe... Mitsubishi is now openly selling rebadged Renaults that aren't known for their longevity either. Even luxury European brands are becoming cheapened - Mercedes is now selling cars with Dacia/Renault engines.
Peugeot seem to be doing ok in terms of quality in the last decade. It seems to me that they do a lot of horizontal segmentation, having the same cars sold under different brands in different markets.
Maybe the answer is Lamborghini. They used to have Ferrari like unreliability till VW bought them. Now they seem to combine Italian design flair with German reliability.
Nissan has been the General Motors (i.e. a manufacturer of mediocre cars) of Japan for a long time. Its low ranking doesn't surprise me. Likewise Volkswagen has been the GM of Germany for a while too. No surprise there either.
But Mercedes coming in 29/30? That surprises me. I've never owned a Mercedes but I thought they had a reputation for reliability.
I deduce that you don't live in Brazil, where they definitely do not offer the same quality they do in Europe. In fact, they continued offering the T1 here, while they were selling the T5 in Europe.
They big 4 (Fiat, VW, Ford, and GM) spent decades selling trash in Brazil, because they had no competition.
That's unfair. Maybe that was somewhat true to an extent for the American part of FCA, but isn't for PSA and Opel. The latter were in not great shape under GM for decades, but were turned around by PSA in a few years. Peugeot, Citroen, DS, Opel have good reputation.
I still think the EU brands have a chance. The ID2 has lots of potential and the eC3 is a price leader being made in EU. The new scenic and the Renault 5 also seem much more appealing than the BYD cars.
Oh, I didn’t realize that, yeah I agree. Really odd that they built a hatchback and then didn’t bother to properly market it in Europe. They had a window when it could have done really well.
They'll still be selling their cars in Europe. The latest gen Focus and Fiestas all came from their European divisions, if problems occur they could theoretically reintroduce them quickly - although they would have lost all their brand momentum in the small car market.
