And the money they made from it probably didn't pay their unearthly Amazon bills.

Didn't they get their money's worth out of it, though?

And they still would have lost to Amazon as they would have priced it such that no one except the government and extra large companies could pay the bill.

And sold it for a LOT less than they paid for it. That couldn't have helped their financial situation any.

I am sure they were not getting their moneys worth.

They got their money; I doubt they cared.

Maybe they didn't think anyone would pay for it.

Well clearly they couldn't afford to by meh.com :-)

Even if they made advertising money on it, it may not have been very much.

Because they didn't pay for it?

I'm guessing they didn't have a lot of money at their disposal.

Yea but they could afford it, ethically that sucks but they still had the money to spend.

Have you ever wanted to buy something small and literally didn't have the money in your account? This is how a huge number of people live, every day, day to day. Those people will never have access to micropayment content, because they can't afford it.

Or, more likely, didn't make the chunk of change they wanted ...

Riiiight, because these folks would certainly have spent the time to make a product that people won't pay them for.

No they didn't, they spent money to rent/watch videos.

...but Amazon certainly paid the royalty. So it did cost them the stated amount of money.

Then they couldn't afford it, period.

If they had gotten all of the concessions they wanted, there would have been no reward.

If they could sell digital goods using their own payment system within the app like Amazon can with Amazon Video, what would they gain from this?

The PR doesn’t tell the story like what came out during court procedures.

They - and many others - didn't understand that distribution (costs) was what they were paid for and content was much less valuable than they thought.

I guess they never got enough money to do a lot of things.
