There's also something fishy about DJI in that their Android app to control their drones is intentionally not listed on the Play Store. I've never seen a manufacturer require side loading.
Anyone know why it's not on the Play Store? (On iOS it is on the App Store, well because there isn't another way till this DMA thing kicks in)
DJI is the only major company that I've experienced demands you install an APK on your android instead of providing something via the app store. Something is completely broken with their software development, though their hardware seems quite nice.
Can't speak to the validity of the explanation, but they claim there's a bug in their SDK that is keeping them from distributing the app in the newly required .aab format (as opposed to the .apk they had previously been updating).
Then there's also the possibility that they either don't feel like being beholden to an app store or there's some part of the app that wouldn't pass muster on the Play Store. No idea, really. I don't have any DJI products, but it would be interesting if the reason has something to do with app functionality (as opposed to just being too cheap/lazy to update the SDK or wanting to bypass the approval process).
Because Apple forced DJI to comply for their version, but since sideloading is available on Android as an alternative, they basically told Google to go pound sand.
They need to work on hardware that can actually connect to the app. 3 different Android phones and 3 different Braava Jet robots and none would connect to the software. Their support gave up. App rating is almost 3 starts now with tons of reports that it won't connect.
I only mention it because they get such good press, but no one is reporting on all the disappointed customers.
This affects me personally because I'm a subscriber Play Store and I can't install anymore. I use this application to control the number of times I access the cellphone and the lack of it has been a big problem.
