hard not to think this isn't intentional misleading on Apple's behalf

sort by: page size:

With Apple, one can never quite tell if it's intentional.

So as usual, Apple is lying/misleading people here. At least 'technically'.

So you assume apple is simply lying?

Knowing Apple I would be very surprised that it is a false accusation.

Is this... Apple admitting to a mistake?

Care to share any examples or references of where Apple is being dishonest here?

Apple is reframing it this way to the media but not technically untrue.

Why would I think there is any truth in something apple's marketing department is saying?

In this case, "the truth" is misleading. Apple presumably doesn't do what was claimed, but it reserves the right to do it.

To be fair, Apple isn't doing a lot to undo that misleading. His anecdote isn't the first I've heard.

Apple is always honest but they know how to make you believe something that isn’t true.

I don't think anyone in the industry assumes that. Apple has been known for these kinds of practices for some time now.

FYI, just because Apple said it doesn't necessarily mean it's true.

Just because something isn't surprising doesn't mean it is necessarily legal or ethical; meanwhile, Apple refuses to admit that "tl;dr" in public--quite likely because they appreciate the practice might not be legal and certainly isn't ethical--and so are attempting to instead claim it is justified, and so it is important to refuse to allow Apple employees that cop out and instead call them out for what we know to be the actual truth here.

It looks like what people were thinking is really what's happening and apple is not looking out for users

It is a common mistake to assume that things written by third parties about Apple's intentions are in any way actually related.

And yet, this claim about Apple’s intent isn’t made with a shred of evidence.

That’s a pretty misleading interpretation of what Apple said or even what Tim Sweeney said in the tweet...

Does anyone else consider this to be dishonest?

Sounds like Apple should take even more control.
