Lower cost perhaps? Canada being cheaper than the us it may be an incentive.

This has always been an advantage of setting up shop in Canada, though ideally this leans more on the "Canadian dollar is cheaper" aspect than the "we simply underpay everyone" aspect.

Yeah what's not evident to me is how Canada has the upper hand in this? If it can be done in Canada, it can be done in the US (and pay better)

Or maybe that Canadians are willing to work for less? (I remember reading an article that auto manufacturers charge more for the same cars in Canada simply because Canadians will pay more.)

It really depends, but if a Canadian company operates in the US market and charges US prices, that puts them at a huge advantage.

Yeah, I was assuming the compensation in Canada is why they choose to do so.

Maybe because the cost of travel and breeding expenses were lower compared to just doing the breeding in Canada.

Could also be the sales price which might be higher there than elsewhere.

I'm by no means an expert and it's just a guesstimate.

And taxes, goods, and services are a little more expensive in Canada.

Canada may be cheaper than US. But still, I've heard the same advice in US.

Canadians are paying a premium too.

Yes, because of Canadian dollar

Canada is not the US. AFAIK this is harder to do in the US and that is a good thing.

It speaks more to canada's lack of entrepreneurial spirit than anything else. There's a reason good canadian companies go to the U.S. to get funding...

US/Canada has a higher standard of living and is also less energy-efficient. These factors are multiplicative so the resulting difference is large.

Given its about Ikea in the United States, why would it help Canadian workers? Plus doesn't Canada have a much better minimum wage in the first place?

I think the difference in taxes are a very minor factor compared to the difference in pre-tax compensation in the US vs Canada.

Cost of living is much less in the US than Canada.

Who cares? For most Canadians, the goal would be to make some money then go back. The US is a downgrade from Canada in most metrics.

Canada, where the competition is even less.

What makes Americans that much more expensive than Canadians?
