They never said you can’t use a controller.

Remember, the iPad doesn’t come with a controller, but you can use a Pencil with it if you want.

Same thing will likely happen with the Vision products.

I never meant for the iPad to replace the controller. Just the computer part.

It's also still absolutely not the primary input method of the device, even on the iPad Pro.

Also the iPad doesn't know what a mouse is, so that's a non-starter.

Disclosure: Microsoft employee, not that it seems relevant

Not being able to do things like that is why I don't have an iPad.

How would that work? There's no cursor for it to control on the iPad.

iPads don't have cursors.

Whatever you do, don’t try using Universal Control with an iPad while casting to another display at the same time. My iPad was pissed.

As someone who loves his iPad, this makes me sad. It’s not enough for me to abandon it but it’ll definitely make the upgrade decision tougher when the time comes.

Does iPad even support Xbox1/PS4/steam controllers? Last time I checked, at least PS4 gamepads did not work on ios. Without those (certainly Xbox and PS4 ones), I’m not sure I’d want to stream games onto an iPad anyway (not that this makes it better, if anything it makes it worse).

An IPAD can't even support a mouse.

The iPad has a native control, with no checkboxes in sight.

Please note I said IPad, not tablet. Call me a dick, but I don't believe other tablets are worth considering as part of any relevant target market anyway, at least at this stage.

It looks like that's not true.

> Mouse support in iPad is real. In accessibility. Also full keyboard control for the entire UI (opposite of Voice Control.)

Update: Here it is in action: https://twitter.com/stroughtonsmith/status/11356536361455902...

but not with the iPad.

Wow, I would've hoped an iPad would work at least. Thanks for confirming.

I'm surprised that the iPad isn't being supported for this.

iPads with a mouse pointer; since iOS is still deliberately missing mouse support.

I was expecting that. Then I remembered the iPad doesn't support a mouse.

That only works with their vnc software. So, mouse on windows, through remote desktop running on the ipad.

The iPad itself still has no concept of a cursor.

Now we just have to wait for Apple to add the reverse - control your Mac from your iPad :)

This could be pretty useful bc of the touch screen + pencil combo. Back in 2016 I spent a weekend mocking up an "iPad as a graphics tablet" app, and it was surprisingly easy and effective [0][1]. I'm sure Apple could do a lot better.

Or you can use the iPad simulator (if you have the SDK).
