Do we know he did not want to go?

More likely he just didn't want to do it.

His point was that he didn't want to.

I seem to recall he wasn't happy about it, but don't recall where he said that or what the details were. Could be wrong, wasn't paying that close attention. He also left after a while without immediately moving on to something else, so it seems he was unhappy about something there.

We don't know if he would have agreed.

Main reason he didn't want it

He did have the option to say no.

Maybe he was hoping for that, and didn't want to be among the ranks of the removed.

That’s a long winded way of saying he just didn’t want to do it.

I'm going to assume he didn't want to continue with it anymore otherwise he certainly would have done that.

No he just said he wouldn't do something and then did it.

I think they've known but didn't want to go down with him.

He knew they made an exception, and now they have gone back on that once he was there. If they were clear from the start, he wouldn't have gone

Hmmm....

Perhaps those closest to him agreed to not tell him that was an option.

I think he probably did but didn't want to talk about it.

Did he decline invitations though? Even if he might decline them, not getting them in the first place would still be saying something.

Maybe he left because, you know... he wanted too?

Well, it's not like he wanted to do it.

It might not have been his decision

> it is generally acknowledged he did not have much choice.

Why didn't he have a choice ?
