Not me, I love the smell of second hand smoke, especially menthols. I grew up with people's parents usually smoking outside of parties, and it drums up some nostalgia I guess. It's a totally different smell than you smoking it yourself.

I seem to be in a small minority, but I always liked the smell of second hand smoke despite never smoking. I've smelled some cigarettes up close and I think I'd really like them, but I don't want to start for health reasons.

As a non smoker, I've always found the actual smell of a burning cigarettes to be sweet and attractive. I think this is because some of my earlier memories are being a little boy waiting for the bus in freezing cold Russia, and seeing soldiers smoking. It looked warm and pleasant, so I think I associated the smell with pleasure.

Places with stale smoke, like bars and smoker's houses still smell bad though. Its the actual smoke from a cigarette that I like the smell of.

My dad smoked through my entire childhood. I don't like the smell of stale cigarette smoke, but smoke drifting from a lit cigarette smells good to me, and reminds me of being around my dad as a kid.

I love the smell of a cigarette when it’s first lit. If they packed them well, it’s just the scent of the paper with a hint of tobacco. It’s a great smell for about a second, then it turns to the smell we all hate. But I miss the scent of a my parents’ and grandparents’ cigarettes, or maybe I just miss all the people who’ve died.

I grew up in and around a family of smokers, always in the smoking section of a bar, etc. I don't smoke myself and have been away from it for decades.

I recently attended an event hosted at an American Legion Post and went to the bar there where smoking was allowed (and done, frequently). The scent first hit me quite negatively, but something triggered in my mind and honestly made it feel more like home. It was an odd feeling of both not really enjoying the immediate sensation while also triggering positive nostalgia memories.

Not me. I hate cannabis smoke.

PSA: please make sure your second hand smoke does not affect others.

I personally enjoy the smell of weed smoke and hate the smell of cigarette smoke. This is not objective.

I don't smoke, but certain cigarettes smell good. A Winston smells good. Cloves and menthols are nasty. Pipe smoke is awesome. I'll probably smoke a pipe when I'm older. Smoking cigars on long road trips with the windows down is good.

I can't stand the smell of cigarettes, many of them make me feel nauseous. This may be because I'm young enough that public smoking has been banned for most of my life, so I never ever got used to the smell.

Interesting how close our timelines match up, minus the 11 years. Smoked from 14 to just before my 30th birthday, which was 6 months ago.

If I smell it in passing, it smells pretty disgusting. But if I spend the weekend at my parents (both heavy smokers), I quickly fall in love with the smell again and yearn for “one last cig”.

A big problem for me is that tobacco smoke very much smells like home - it’s what home smelled like growing up. And nothing takes you back like a strong, familiar scent.

I much prefer "funny smells" to regular cigarette smoke, be it for the smell of the cloud, the one it leaves on your clothes, or the aggressiveness of the smoke on your lungs.

second hand smoke is a thing.

Being able to smell from the outside that someone is smoking inside their home is not "second hand smoking". You'd need to be in the same room as them to get the necessary level of exposure.

likely a result of its questionable legality, since cigarettes are a perfectly valid reason to smell like smoke.

While I love the smell of most cigarettes, I share your sentiments about the smell of weed. Most marijuana smoke elicits a visceral response in me that makes me want to throw up and reminds me of dead skunk roadkill.

That said, I put up with it because I respect the freedom of those wishing to enjoy it. I also have no choice, because the smell has become ubiquitous almost everywhere you go.

I really enjoy the smell of pipe tobacco, and some pipe smoke is actually rather pleasing.

Personally I would still never smoke, if nothing else because I've had to clean out the tar and gunk from old televisions and stuff. That shit is nasty.

Inhaling second-hand smoke is an entirely different mechanism of exposure than just witnessing something. I loved the smell and effect of my grandmother's Marlboro Reds, and I loved the smell and effect of my father's Golden Virginia tobacco. I'd shut the windows as a kid and teen and hotbox the room so I got some, and sure enough, I ended up smoking for many years.

We’re not talking smoking though

We’re talking second hand smoke

Who exactly is looking to get some second hand smoke in their face while avoiding actually smoking?

Smoke used to be the smell of jazz. Going to hear live music was the only thing that could get me to second hand smoke.
