For those who like this I would also recommend Mindustry, a similar game which is open source and available for mobile. I actually have spent quite a lot of time with it.
Oh that's a game that I've been meaning to look further into. I had just seen that it cost money and was Windows only, I forgot that it was on mobile as well (and free there!)
I don't know if it will ultimately be a huge success story but I think 'Cordy' http://www.cordythegame.com/ is fantastic and is Android only. We bought the full version within a few minutes of playing the trial version.
I don't have a great resource but I can recommend Polytopia and Rebel Inc, two games that are fun on mobile and don't have the predatory skinner box practices that so many games seem to have.
I really like this trend of mobile apps with a fully functional experience on the web. Adrift for iOS is nice example of using this approach for a trial/teaser experience. It's worth checking out the fully playable demo on the game's site at http://www.playadrift.com/, and the base app is free if you want to compare/contrast that to the mobile device experience. Beautifully done, IMO.
Wow, I really needed that website. I spend a lot of time looking for games of this kind, since like 99% of Android games are, in your (rather precise) terms, bullshit, and after some experiences with those I don't want to pay any more, period.
Can't edit on the app I'm using, but I found this implementation of the game I was talking about: https://www.silvergames.com/en/falling-sand. Not the original, but it has all the elements I remember, plus some interesting things like wind. And works decently on my phone.
Yeah, I forgot all about these kinds of games. I used to play something similar on Android, where you used your finger, so it was more game-ish, but it was a great mobile game. Anything like this for iOS?
