No, there is no way for me to get the home screen without accepting the watch history on. So, if I want a home screen, I am forced to turn it on. Edit: I've updated the title to "requires".

I disabled it because I'm happy to watch YouTube subscriptions and the occasional recommendations, but I really don't see why YouTube needs to know my watch history.

As far as the dupe is concerned, please link to it so others can find it too.

My watch history is off. How do I turn off Home Screen? I still get it

No. I got to the home screen. You can disable it though.

It requires adding the app your Home Screen first.

Yes if you look at the arrow button at the top right, it's a home screen only functionality.

Ah; that isn't something you can "switch the Home Screen to", though.

You can of course choose not to add web apps to your Home Screen.

Yes I did. It doesn’t bother me much. And I’m sure you could sideload something to get rid of that Home Screen altogether.

False. Swiping up in the YouTube app with the bar hidden goes home just fine.

Yeah, doesn't work if a user has already added to home screen.

You could check if one of the features that is only available on the home screen is available

You can put them on a hidden home screen. It's a pain, but it's the only way to keep the app but not have it on your home screen.

"on the home screen"?

It's just a downside to the feature, I guess. Of course, I'd imagine you don't HAVE to enable this if you don't entirely trust it.

For me, having a lock screen at work/home is useless and just an annoyance. It's a pain always having to enable it when I leave work/home so this feature is perfect for me.

This web version supports adding to the home screen and you maybe won’t even notice the difference.

screen doesn't have history?

I never knew about the "Add to Homescreen" feature, that's really interesting

There has been the ability add to the home screen since day 1. There were plenty of website that calculated where the “share” button was in the browser app and had a pop up to add to the home screen.

Not adding most apps to the Home Screen adds just enough friction for me. For heavy offenders which draw my attention, there is one sec.

That's on the home screen, not displayed over content.
