Would it count if we chatted a bit on google talk due to a cancelled cloud flare technical interview 4-5 years ago? Haha.

On the plus side you managed to speak to an actual human at google!

"Hi I'd like to connect with you on GoogleJobs"

There was a Google engineer last summer who leaked a whole giant chat transcript with one of their LLMs that was pretty impressive before ChatGPT went opened up at the end of the year.

Not super related, but I know someone that interviewed with them, and they did their coding interviews using Google Docs...

This was basically part of a public set of Google interview questions around 2009 already ;)

Absolutely! One of the smartest people I know did, and works for Google now and even landed a YC interview. Not only is it possible but it could end up being a boon. Best of luck.

I joined in 2014 as L4 (I think), and I remember having some googleyness interviews even back then.

But I could be remembering wrong.

I know that as recently as about five years ago, Google recruiters were contacting people being helpful in the C++ chatroom on Freenode.

No. They didn't get back to me in 2006 after I submitted a pretty cool coding challenge project to them as a part of interviewing, & we've had no contact to my knowledge since.

They did support me in Google Summer of Code before that (2005). I believe they gave me $5000 for the summer. I am still working to ship open source software pursuant to those ends, on my own personal time, to this day.

I would certainly be interested in this connection offer. I applied with Google once but the offer they gave was not a high enough level. I'd love to talk about how to get a reasonable offer and interviews. Please see my profile for email if you have the time.

Google Corp Dev here. Would love to chat.

Perhaps nice to mention here: "Talks at Google"

https://talksat.withgoogle.com/

Not restricted to just software engineering, though.

I did a Google interview around then, and the interviewer photographed my code with an ordinary digital camera.

Go for it! If that recruiter is no longer at Google, let me know and I will connect you with one who is.

(thinking out loud: wouldn't be cool if someone at Google contacts me? I'd love to work for them :)

A good test of a software engineer would be to ask them if this is interesting or meaningful.

This "accomplishment" says more about how rote and unchanging Google's code interviews are than about ChatGPT. I'd guess Google search has had "AI" good enough to do this for years, even though it wasn't trained to.

I applied to Google. They hired me. I worked on Google Talk and Hangouts for many years. WebRTC was related and interesting, so I worked on various parts (such as the data channels) in my 20% time. After a while, I liked it so much I chose to make it my 100% time.

You could have been a perfect hire for early Google :).

I may have interviewed you at one point (not at Google).

Either that or someone else is going around with your questions.
