You know I really don’t care if you believe me or not. I’ll sleep just fine. But since you asked oh so nicely… I had a Corolla and it cost me just under $800, and I’m just over $200/mo in electric

I was curious so I looked it up. The 2024 Corolla starts at $21,900 in the US. The cheapest '24 I could find was the Nissan Versa at $16,390.

Of course, neither of these are electric. But they are also well known makes in the American market.

I have a Toyota Corolla to sell you at $100k.

$4,500 2005 Toyota Corolla here...

I put 80,000 miles on it in 2 years... I think I got my money's worth.

Let me know when they're the same price as a corolla

Meh, a brand new Toyota Corolla Hybrid is $24k including fees.

A 2024 toyota corolla is ~$22k.

Toyota is the worst make for this, but yeah. The Corolla quote I got all inclusive was $28K and the Camry quote was $37K so I ended up going with a Tesla 3 for $34K after taxes. Much better in every way but it’s still fucking expensive, especially with insurance

> The current cost of a new car in the US is just under $49,000.

As Ron Burgundy would say, "I don't believe you."

A new Toyota Corolla Hybrid starts at $23k.

Not in a country where a Toyota Corolla costs upwards of $100,000.

A brand new base trim Corolla is still something like $25k.

No, I wouldn't consider buying a Toyota Corolla for 60K.

But my car cost less than $2000.

I own a new 2020 Corolla Hybrid and it gives me 58 mpg mileage and cost me $25,000 including all the destination, DMV, etc. charges plus with 3 years of add-on maintenance. Impressive considering when I pay $350 EMI ($0 down-payment on 84 months loan) every month on it and it already saves me about $70 that same month on gas compared to my previous car. So overall the Adj EMI would be just $280.

Joke’s on you. My Camry was only $25k new.

The cheapest Toyota available in the US is a bare bones Corolla for a bit over $20,000.

It somewhat remains to be seen if a used electric with a new battery can be cheaper than a used hybrid.

A corolla isn't a budget car.

The cheapest configurable Corolla here (Australia) is $35,857. More than 50% of the median yearly wage ($65000)

To me that's not a budget car. The closest thing would be a Kia Picanto for about $18500

For me, too expensive. Although the Corolla has gotten relatively expensive over the years.

Ha ha good luck with that. Dealers don't actually stock the cheap base models, and most are charging additional mark ups due to limited supply and high demand. If you want to actually purchase a Corolla Hybrid today then your total price out the door including taxes and fees will likely be over $34K.

There are cheaper new cars available, though. You can get a little penalty box like a Mitsubishi Mirage or Nissan Versa for much less.

We buy used recent Corollas (4-5 years) at around $25-30k in my country. If it’s cheaper than that, it’s probably a salvaged vehicle or it a stolen vehicle from Canada or something. New Corollas cost around $40-50k.

The Chinese vehicles are now replacing those used cars. They cost $20-25k new and come with all the bells and whistles you wouldn’t get from Toyota. They are also assembled locally so, supports and parts are not a problem.
