Certainly meaning that a developer version of GPT-3 is going to be open-sourced since it has been beaten and over-taken by other open source models.

sort by: page size:

Exactly. They opensourced GPT-2, but GPT-3 will not be opensourced even after GPT-4 is released, apparently.

Is this model as closed as GPT-3, or has it been open-sourced?

GPT-3 is opensource. GPT-4 isn't.

https://github.com/openai/gpt-3

But GPT-4 isn't open-source.

What? GPT-2 is open source.

Is it better than GPT-2? I see gpt-2 being open sourced then what's the deal about?

I wonder if GPT-3 will get some pressure from this to become open source or at least lower their prices if they want to remain competitive.

Where are the gpt4 open source equivalents going to come from?

is this the first GPT-like models which is fully opensource ? none of the others are right ?

Yes. He's referring to OpenAI releasing custom GPTs. They're clearly starting to move up the stack.

GPT-4 (or a reduced version of it) should be opensource too if you ask me :P

I mean if GPT-4 is good enough at its current level for people to start companies on it then they will be able to do the current level with open source models at some point.

Since the demos on this page use zero-shot learning and the used model has a 2020-05-03 timestamp, that implies this API is using some form of GPT-3: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23345379 (EDIT: the accompanying blog post confirms that: https://openai.com/blog/openai-api/ )

Recently, OpenAI set the GPT-3 GitHub repo to read-only: https://github.com/openai/gpt-3

Taken together, this seems to imply that GPT-3 was more intended for a SaaS such as this, and it's less likely that it will be open-sourced like GPT-2 was.

Well, this message didn't age well as soon as GPT-3 was made as an API access model only.

It's getting harder to define 'OpenAI'. It is just another DeepMind, where they release the paper but never the model.

GPT-2 is Open Source. Nothing stopping you from training it on techno babble. GPT-3 is closed source.

According to this article:

> Imagine we gave you unrestricted access to OpenAI's Whisper (transcription), Voice (text-to-speech), GPT-4V, and DALLE·3 models, and you were a malicious actor.

I sense signals that GPT-3 open-source release is imminent. My bet is announcement on 11/6 OpenAI DevDay. My whole prediction is here: https://christorng.substack.com/p/openai-nears-open-sourcing...

Is there a version of GPT-3 that is available for use by the general public right now? I haven't seen anything outside of OpenAPI's private beta.

the issue is that they started out open source. GPT2 is entirely open-source

I think OpenAI has been using the excuse that GPT-4 is not AGI, and therefore can remain closed-source.
