China is and has been for sometime the single greatest threat to world peace and security. To be fair, the other hemisphere will say the same about the United States. All things being equal, I'm more worried about China than anyone else.

Is China not a uniquely threatening force? They have the second largest GDP, the second-most expensive military with the most personnel, considerable influence over other important Asian countries, and a major role in manufacturing the world's products, and they continue to rapidly expand across all of those facets. They are very much in opposition to Liberal values (free speech, democracy, privacy), and they are somewhat aligned with other US adversaries (Russia, North Korea).

In 1910, I'd absolutely attribute focus on China to racism. Today, if I were to rank the biggest threats to US for the coming decades, I would put China in distant first place. But I'm no geopolitics expert, am I missing something?

China is a threat to the world. They have North Korea in their back pocket, they put their own citizens into concentration camps and are rapidly on the move to expand their territory. We can also mention being the biggest threat to the environment, spying, Covid and a lot more. the bottom line is that something needs to be done.

China is still the single greatest threat to world peace, from Tiananmen Square to ethnic cleansing, the government of China is a despotic regime of murderers. Anything the west can do to combat this, it’s a good thing, and shame on any American brand that puts profits over human rights.

China is not a threat. Russia, North Korea, and certain Middle East countries are.

I must have missed when China has ever threatened global security. Western belligerence has driven nearly all modern international conflict.

China is the single greatest threat to freedom, human rights, and prosperity, the world over. I don't know how anyone who makes money from China can sleep at night.

The united states is, on balance, a rather stupid country. We re-elected a dolt that invaded Iraq on the premise they caused 911 when they obviously didnt. That said, China poses a unique threat: a panopticon, freedom supressing government, with next to no option for change, and trying to expand its borders. Scary.

Suppressing China won't make America great, but it will make America safer. From intellectual property theft, espionage, Human rights abuses against Chinese, American citizens, De-escalation of tension and threat in Asia, reduction in funding for despotic regimes, China is the single greatest threat to world peace.

The real question should be: Is China a threat to future world?

I agree with you but why not fear both the USA and China? :D

Not like there's only threat in the world.

Can someone convince me that, as a Canadian, China poses a greater threat to me, my country, or global security, than the US does? Because I have a hard time buying into the "China's the big bad" narrative when America does everything they do.

Well that's the scariest thing I've read in a long time. Turns out the image of China as a worthy, powerful opponent destined to greatness is a carefully crafted ruse. There's no doubt about it's power but some of the stuff in the article would make a young Bill Gates blush.

I wonder what would have to happen for America and Europe to stand up and deal with this? What would be worth the conflict and political outcry due to temporarily lowered standard of living?

Is it just me or does anybody else feel like China will be the most important threat for U.S in the next 5-10 years? I am talking w.r.t trade, cyber security, etc.

US is FAR scarier than China. Just try to ask in Europe who the (educated) people there consider to be the primary threat to the world. I am not talking about european "mainstream media", these are eventually on the US food chain.

The danger comes when China has enough money to equal the US in military strength and decides it wants as much influence in World politics as America does.

The rest of the World doesn't need that complication.

The thing that most commenters here in tacit support of China fail to take into account is that China and the US are global superpowers (unlike the litany of baddies that have been mentioned here)... The US taking a hard line on China can have a cascading affect. The US can’t boil the ocean in regard to fixing all of the worlds ills, and we’re by no means perfect. China is simply the best hill to stand our ground on at the moment.

I can't be the only one noticing so much noise about China in American media.

Is America really so scared of being number 2?

Yeah... no thanks. If I'm one of those nations, China is one of the threats I'm worried about. You don't ask the fox to guard the henhouse.

China is the new big red threat, has been for a while now. No whataboutism about it, the US does the same shit but the fear of the other is still just as strong as ever.
