I used to use the Logitech K480 for this, which is a non-folding Bluetooth keyboard with integrated phone stand. Though it was as bulky as carrying a small tablet or laptop would've been, it was still convenient - at the time my only laptop was a 17" tank.
Does anyone have experience with Bluetooth fold-up-keyboards? I'd imagine those with a tablet would be much more useable (I just carry a laptop, and tether with my phone, but wouldn't mind something smaller).
I like the iClever Wireless Folding Keyboard - mini version. It's tiny and easy to carry with a phone. You need to be a little more careful with where some keys are.
Keyboards sure are hard to beat. Maybe a foldable blue-tooth keyboard that you can have in your pocket and then place on your lap or a table.
Where do you place your mobile while typing with both hands though ? Maybe in a casing so it can sit on your lower arm. Or a Velcro/burdock case so you can place the mobile on textile surfaces.
At one point I had a portable keyboard for my palm pilot that used similar folding tech. The keyboard when folded was very small - about the size of an iPhone in a large case.
I'm surprised nobody has released a bluetooth version of this keyboard for the iPad, I know I would buy one.
I like its compact design (it fits in a pocket), and it's very satisfying to fold/unfold :] That said, I don't use it that often because I find smartphone screen sizes too small.
No good alternatives. For years, I had smartphones with slider keyboards. Now, I carry a foldable bluetooth keyboard in my bag. Onscreen keyboards are for emergencies only. But a lot of people view lugging the keyboard as unacceptable.
Close yeah but not really comfortable on the lap or anything.
I always hated the Surface Pro style tablets. Or those Apple keyboards for the iPad. I've tried them but sold them again, they were a horribly unstable contraption.
For me a laptop has the keyboard firmly attached to the screen at all times :) Especially for portable use.
honestly I'd be really happy with a keyboard that folded out to around the size of one of the smallish bluetooth keyboards, X emacs a browser and a terminal on my phablet.
The closest I've come was a nexus 7 with a keyboard case and bluetooth mouse and remote desktop.
I have! But it's too small for what I'm chasing :) Very cool gadget in it's own right however -- but I want to do a bigger keyboard for comfortable typing on it for writing prose
I carry a folding bluetooth keyboard when I'm on call and just use my phone to SSH to another system. It's a great setup in a pinch. Decent battery life, built in 4G and close to a full sized keyboard which is much easier for typing than these micro PCs.
I've also used my phone connected to a screen/keyboard/mouse through Samsung Dex and it was a very desktop like experience for my use case. Although it's rare that I'd have the required equipment and not be carrying a full sized laptop.
A less elegant but practical option for note taking in class or writing docs is a portable folding keyboard for iPhones, like this iClever Bluetooth Keyboard
This is cool but I wish I could just have a 75% portable Bluetooth keyboard. I can't justify buying a foldable phone with a million screens but would love a Psion like keyboard with 4 and a half almost full size rows that I can slide out from below my phone with no folding and just use directly without getting in the way of my rear camera. Has anyone seen anything like that? I am really happy with laptop scissor switch rubber dome keyboard profiles, I loved the Psion but I just want a Bluetooth keyboard. Sorry it's not directly related!
In the end I got Apple’s Bluetooth keyboard, I like the scissor actuation or whatever, but it is slightly too big to be as portable as a cellphone.
