Ah I didn’t realise it still existed. I think I must have misremembered the warning as being a deprecation notice.

I didn't realize it was still on the page, I just saw the deprecation warning. Thank you!

DEPRECATION NOTICE

It’s deprecated.

It is in fact deprecated.

This is inaccurate. I got an email back in April (4 months ago) letting me know about the deprecation. And I've gotten a reminder or two since. Maybe you missed the other notices?

Weird to see this described as a "deprecation," when really it's removed entirely.

Yes, that’s because it’s deprecated and that’s why you get all these warnings.

Back in my individual contributor days I got into serious trouble because of this. Where can I find it has officially been deprecated? I tried and I can still use it without getting any warnings?

It's deprecated.

They did give deprecation warnings in various version 7 releases, so they didn't come out of nowhere. (Not that you said they did, but for the purpose of other readers.)

And it does still exist, until November. Deprecation is a transition period, instead of just removal without warning, but without future scheduled removal then deprecation would serve no purpose.

They're considering deprecating it, or moving it to a plugin. Thought you should know.

You're supposed to pay attention to DeprecationWarnings.

Yes, but the message clearly states it will be removed in the future. IMO they shouldn't do that. Deprecate indefinitely.

You can still mark it deprecated, even if you don't actually get around to removing it - code that gets recompiled will see the warning and hopefully fix it, and that which doesn't will still work.

Wow, not even an industry-standard-for-many-decades deprecation notice up front, to give people a heads up before hand.

That's pretty fucked. :(

Either my memory fails me, or the comment was edited...

I don't recall responding to a comment that mentioned using deprecation warnings instead. :/

Yeah, that’s because it’s deprecated. It’s supposed to go away. Good riddance.

The deprecation warnings started in 2018 with 10.13.4, not 10+ years ago.
