This is inaccurate. I got an email back in April (4 months ago) letting me know about the deprecation. And I've gotten a reminder or two since. Maybe you missed the other notices?
Back in my individual contributor days I got into serious trouble because of this. Where can I find it has officially been deprecated? I tried and I can still use it without getting any warnings?
They did give deprecation warnings in various version 7 releases, so they didn't come out of nowhere. (Not that you said they did, but for the purpose of other readers.)
And it does still exist, until November. Deprecation is a transition period, instead of just removal without warning, but without future scheduled removal then deprecation would serve no purpose.
You can still mark it deprecated, even if you don't actually get around to removing it - code that gets recompiled will see the warning and hopefully fix it, and that which doesn't will still work.
