AI Dungeon is an AI generated text adventure that uses deep learning to create each adventure. It uses OpenAI's new GPT-2 model, which has 117 million parameters, to generate each story block and possible action. I started making it as a hackathon project and decided to make it a web app so people can have fun with it. Let me know what you think.
I would, if I had the skills, maybe call it "LI Dungeon" (Liberal Intelligence Dungeon). Regarding the market: I am surprised there even is a market for AI Dungeon. Any output I have seen is complete trash.
Author of the game here. I don't mention it in the article or the video, but AI Dungeon is exactly what I didn't set out to do. GPT-2/3-based games are cool, but they have no ground truth.
The main issue with AI Dungeon right now is that it is too free form. The AI is incapable of remembering plot points, and just writes very convincing prose based on the last few paragraphs. This has the result that one can be playing a medieval game and then quickly end up getting on a motorcycle and driving away.
In my experience, this is already possible (though it might be cribbing from elsewhere). AI Dungeon has made some pretty excellent jokes while i've been playing.
AI (GPT-3 and similar technology). It's spawning a new generation of games, probably similar to roguelikes in that the effort bar is low enough that someone of generic skill can build one on their own. Games have the potential to be far more emergent than they ever were. AI Dungeon is like the Zork of today.
