Software is used to make models, but the models aren’t software anymore than Toy Story is software.

"Software toy" is the term most famously associated with Will Wright's products.

Not everything is software

No, it's software that's being anthropomorphized. That's not the same.

A big difference is that software is both is and isn't an artistic work.

Sure. But software is infinitely more complex than movie or any pure hardware engineering

It isn’t software

Just to be clear, parent is describing fictional software, not the system in the article. You seem to be conflating the two.

and software.

And what animates the software developer? I disagree that a computer is an inanimate object (unless you pull the power plug).

No, software isn't models.

Software is text written in a mathematical language.

Doing a visual interpretation of math (or interpretative dance, or a song, etc) isn't going to end in anything useful.

I don't follow why it can't be software in the same way that you can download blender and make your own animated movie if you have a beefy enough computer.

But it’s not software—it’s a creative work.

Software is arts and crafts :)

Things are what they are when you interact with them. You can't learn how to ride a bike by learning the theory. It's no different for software.

> "computer software look more like real-world analogues"

Skeuomorphic design. That's the term for it.

Software is design. We can't put design on any kind of assembly line / stamping process. This seems like it will remain true for a long time.

It doesn't seem that way to me at all. You can create software that does things that were previously not possible or not practical. That is the creation of technology. Software and information are products just as valid as cars and robots.

It's not really software. Electronics yes, software no. At least, AFAIK.

Software is not speech.
