What I meant was:
"why do you not mind the current state, where the workforce is ingested with "drugs""
Yet you don't like the idea of "drugs" actually making people's live better?
The current world... Capitalism and political systems, is just an emergent result of society's internal stress, it is pendulum between, trying to making it and giving up to depression...what if we can actually balance that with a slight change to our diet of, vitamins, food supplements, neuro stimulants ( coffe, sugar)... Maybe we just need to sprinkle som psylocibin on top?
You can wait for every human to change their behavior to fit your preferences (and disparage them until they do). In the meantime we can produce drugs that save lives until then. We can do both at the same time, so what's the problem?
We've already got enough substances for humans to survive and thrive. To add more to food should require crossing a high barrier, especially since almost all new substances are driven by profit motive rather than improvement of health and lives.
It seems like we should find ways to excite people about life and discovery rather than drum about the worker bee life. That's why people want drugs so much.
Go build something interesting - physical, not on the computer, stop doing drugs.
This is a really unpopular answer, but I whole heartedly support it. Unfortunately, many people are looking for a solution (a quick fix) in a pill. They don't want to hear that perhaps the way they are living or the society they live in is not conducive to happiness.
Perhaps an alternative to intoxication is to work towards a world of human flourishing.
Whereas others take drugs made in bathtubs and cooked by idiots. The right to experiment on oneself is, for now, an advantage individuals have over corporate interests. You do you. I'm happy just seeing what kinds of stuff they make, for now, but if someone makes something cool, I'll buy the kit.
I don't understand why they are so desperate for it. I suppose it's because they have a purely mechanistic view of the brain, and that if there isn't some chemical you can change to help, you're fucked
Humanity at its finest: depleting a potentially valuable resource forever so you can make more of a drug that ruins hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of lives a year.
You misinterpret me, I'm not asking what the world needs, I'm asking what it's possible to give them for profit.
If wondering if we could create a social network that offers 50x the social validation (fentanyl is like 50x the potency of heroin). Maybe machine learning can find the right combination of color flashes to cause people to have a social bliss seizure. Maybe while simultaneously reading their rapid eye movements to extract their credit card information from their short circuiting brains.
It could as easily be said: before they hit the street and became politicized, many drugs like Cocaine and Heroin were used in over the counter medicine and even consumer products like Coca Cola to treat a variety of ailments.
I'm not saying we shouldn't be researching these chemical's potential benefits to humanity now, but it's not like these drugs were clamped down on for no good reason. We saw what many of these drugs were doing to society, completely banned them to try and counter that, including Universities in the process, and over time we've begun to develop an understanding and different perspective on these drugs, and now the pendulum starts to swing in the opposite direction.
The same greed makes the drug industry to develop drugs which treat the illness rather than cure it. Regular drug users are much better for them than one-time users.
