going around down voting isn't making a point is it? Its like the bully hitting the weak kid because he cannot respond intelligibly to his questions. Please speak your mind. If you cannot convince me without down voting, maybe you need to read a few blogs about how to get IT out of the brains. It is a very short distance, but for some it is a long way so they just go with the next best thing. In this vas that is down voting. Because you cannot hit me physically you are trying to get points away. I believe that is showing your level of maturity and if you are truly honest to yourself I am challenging you to put your startup name here and I will put mine. We should all agree to disagree. If you do not like my comment then do not read them. Excuse my freedom of speech.

Stop that. Stop that shit right now. This is not a business, and we don't you acting like a jerk CEO and yelling at people.

I guess you didn't get downvoted because people agree with you. I agree with you also. And yet, being right is not an excuse for the overly antagonistic way you made your point.

Downvotes demonstrating my point.

I deserve my down votes. This is explicitly designed not to be a political forum. I have come to the conclusion that there is no neutral pursuit of technology and my participation here is thus a contradiction. Still I want to get to 400 karma for that juicy downvote button. Thanks for the commentary I will work on being less preachy.

I downvoted you. Your whole post is a thinly veiled marketing post that is only tangentially related to the topic at hand, as others have noted. Beyond that, your tone is annoying and your additional posts only serve to justify my initial impression.

To the downvoter(s), I would appreciate your open feedback if you take issue with my straight critique (based on my real experiences) of the company's service.

I appreciate your candour - it's useful to see another point of view, and I will take it into account.

Having said that, I usually don't see the reasons for the down-votes, and I genuinely do want explanations. I don't mind the down-votes - whether or not I can "afford the karma" is beside the point. Down-voting people is a part of how the site works, causing comments and submissions to bubble up and/or down, and I think that's a good thing. Not being given the chance to learn something or to see an alternate point of view is disappointing.

But when someone disagrees with a comment and just performs a "drive-by down-vote" I think it's of negative value to the site, and I'd like to discourage that. Sadly, I suspect that ship has sailed.

So again, thank you for the feedback. If we're ever co-located, and you think you can stand my company, I owe you a coffee. FWIW, I've upvoted your comment, even though I (obviously) don't agree with it.

whoever downvoted me is proving my point

The downvotes without replies are proof I've hit a nerve, and am saying things others cannot stand because they cannot refute them.

Or maybe, everyone on this article has proven exactly the main point of the article. Because no one has discussed the technical merits of the advice I offered, only how they interpreted my tone via text to be too harsh for their sensitive standards. It proves my point that this site downvotes not based on wrong ideas, but rather disliked ideas. And that is something I wont be a part of any longer.

If you are wondering about the down-voting I can explain. While both your points are correct your tone is disrespectful.

Why voting me down? Please share your experience.

The downvotes just proves my point.

I'll down-vote you just for pointing out that you'd like not to be down-voted. If you weren't so over-protective of your ego, you wouldn't feel the need to bring it up, which inherently drives the discussion away from the things you claim to want to drive it toward.

Treat your upvotes as a currency that you can spend on controversial opinions and phrasing. Accusing down-voters of being 'angry people who don't engage in discussion' is certainly immature and hypocritical of you. Generally speaking, there are dozens of great reasons to down-vote someone and not type a reply.

I did make my point. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16441154

Then I commented on your style, and your response is a bit mad. If your goal is to ensure that people simply downvote and move on, then keep it up, I can’t and won’t stop you. If you’re really trying to discuss issues with people you might want to work on your style.

Dear downvoters: I have points to spare. What you don’t have is an argument.

yes, downvote instead of proving my point wrong.

The fact that I am getting downvoted proves this.

So again, you don't care about substance, only presentation. Got it. I am the opposite, however, I don't get a voice because while I probably have 1000 lifetime upvotes I have about 650 downvotes. But that makes it look like only half the time I'm right when in reality there's a decent number of people like you who discredit my online reputation because of my personal nature. In my work culture, things that upset you wouldn't even have registered so it's frustrating that I have to conform to Joe Smiths idea of proper while he prevents the mob rule from turning on him through downvoting heretical thoughts all-the-while having nothing to do with the core principles of what this website is for.

0) It's very nice to see you change your position. First, "you did nothing wrong". Then, after I pointed out that you did, indeed, do something wrong, turns out you did it because "you were attacked strongly". This is a common behavior in elementary school, and not an acceptable mode of conduct in adult age, especially from a technical Ph.D.

1) There are plenty of people on HN who don't bow down before VCs. See patio11, mechanical_fish, tptacek etc. They are not voted down into oblivion, so it is likely that the reason why you are being downvoted has nothing to do with your particular opinion of VCs.

2) I looked through your comment history on the site. You tend to write long, rambling, stream-of-consciousness walls of text - this is true not just of this thread, but of many others over the last two months. Different commenters have pointed out that they do not enjoy reading your posts precisely because of that reason. Frankly, I don't either. So, I'm pretty sure that's why you were, as you say, "strongly attacked". It is perfectly acceptable to downvote comments for presentation rather than substance, and that happens on HN quite often. If you think that the substance of your comments is so important that presentation doesn't matter, you and HN are both better off if you leave.
