They've said what you'd expect if they were telling the truth, sure. They've also said what you'd expect if they were lying. In other words, these statements provide no information. Given that, and the other evidence, it's reasonable to think that they are lying.
It's not that these people don't accept (that is, comprehend and agree with) basic facts. The photographic evidence is irrefutable.
The conclusion is necessarily that they're knowingly lying,
which is something else entirely.
It'd be equivalent to showing someone a globe of the earth and asking them if the globe itself was flat or round, and their responding "flat" simply because that's the position of their team.
I think the correct perspective is that they lie as an organization. Sure individually maybe no single person is obviously lying, but as a whole they certainly are.
You know when those people are lying, the first clue is their lips moving.
