I can confirm that it is amazing. Yes there are some software bugs but it's hard to care when your car is that fucking amazing. They release software updates often.
Have you driven one of their current model lineup? It seems to me that they really improved things recently (and judging from what I see on the roads, especially the new 3008 seems to really resonate with buyers).
> their new designs are gorgeous given the price range.
Definitely. Compare their designs to anything else from Japan and you'll find that they manage to be modern and interesting without being too angular and aggressive (see new Honda Civic, esp. the Type R and the Prius Prime).
Besides that, their driving experiences are tuned for pure joy. The CX-5 is by far the best handling mid-size SUV, and of course the MX-5 is unmatched. Best of all, they still somehow find the time to experiment and create masterpieces like the MX-5 RF.
Now if only they can deliver on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, then they'll really check all the boxes.

> Now at rev 2.0 they have a much better product than rev 1.0.
But really, what's amazing to me is that rev 2.0 is better than most cars on the road today which are at rev double digits, having developed in one of the more competitive markets in the world.
we own one, can agree that its great! it's my wife's daily driver, and with my own trips in it, i can't even imagine getting another ICE when the time comes to get a new car for myself. the L mode itself is almost a new driving experience, controlling the car fully through just one pedal and trying to eke out every last drop of kinetic energy back into the battery, and making it a challenge to never use the brakes. it's nearly as fun as a manual transmission. i mentioned this before in another thread, but the most hilarious part of ownership is the maintenance schedule. it's as follows:
I rag on body styling but in terms of engine power, efficiency, safety, durability, features, and interior quality, cars have gotten much, much better. The launch of new innovative disruption first from Japan, then Korea, and now homegrown competitors like Tesla has really improved competition and driven more innovation in the industry. The new tech is also getting insane, with hand gestures recognition, cameras everywhere, blind spot sensors. It's a great time to drive a car.
Their current models are ugly, but I owned an ES350 and it is absolutely the best-made car I have ever driven. And when, rarely, something breaks, it’s a Camry under the hood, and every mechanic everywhere can fix it.
