This is just a gross manipulation of societal discourse. Yet another reason the biggest tech companies need to be broken up or regulated like the public utilities they are.
It is so sad to see the bad actors in the tech industry pushing so hard to advance policies that are harmful to society at large and people individually.
It is even more sad that I'm not the least bit surprised by this.
You cannot get to the scale of Facebook or Google without being political.
These are tech companies in that they sell tech. They are not tech companies as in parties who are only interested in building the best products using technology. As far as how they act silicon valley is turning just as bad as Wall Street
Yet another self-inflicted wound the Congress of old men do to make the US software industry even less competitive. I would argue this is political because the tech industry is a convenient target at the moment, full of young people who tend to vote against the ruling party. That, and legacy industries don't care too much about R&D anyway.
people make decisions, companies don't. That's the problem, people see the company as a political vehicle, akin to a political party. That's wrong on so many levels, primarily on the level that it's a well-funded for-profit organization with the means to cause undemocratic, arbitrary political damage. Blame individuals as much as you want for their politics, don't use the overfunded big tech as a trojan horse to destroy democratic balances.
Not to mention they are far too involved in politics, which tech companies should not be, at least not overtly.
I realize I'm likely in the minority here, but I grow weary of tech companies thinking they need to overtly champion causes, many of which I vociferously disagree with. If you make widgets, make them. Don't get involved in politics and then use your company to champion your beliefs, because this tends to alienate people.
