Generally with these things FAANG companies do everything all at once. The "free" version in development is Google search + GenAI results + ads that's live right now and getting better every day.

The real product isn't is this particular interface, the real product is the Gemini infrastructure that is being integrated into every Google product.

This is, in essence, a new product from Google. What has been free continues to be free.

Google has a pretty popular free product.

It's like using a Google product.

wow looks like a great service from google again. I have been using lot of google technologies in my application lately, all of which are free.

I always wonder.. what's in it for google?

Yes, it's developed by Google.

It is made by Google.

It is a Google project - they just demo'd it at IO

Thanks for the link. This is the first Google product launch I can remember where I have immediately liked the interface.

Thanks for the link. From what we can see now it got a lot of Google integration. Too much for my taste.

This is also a Google product/initiative.

Isn't this what Google is actively developing?

Google just announced their version of this on Tuesday with Gemini

I don't know how they've specifically done it, either, but this is an area where Google has a ridiculous advantage over pure play AI shops. It's highly likely they have architected it for use cases like this from the outset, since the primary application of Gemini will be within Google's own products. They'll publish APIs, of course, and embed within Vertex AI on Google Cloud, but since the primary utility of Gemini will be to improve Search, Maps, Travel, Youtube, etc, I'd imagine they had a first class business requirement from the beginning along the lines of "must be easy to plug into existing Google data sources & products."

From another comment, it was released by their internal startup incubator. It's potentially not related to anything else at all inside Google, just a project a small team was able to put together with Google's money.

The article mentions that it's an in-house proprietary framework used in some live Google products, such as Drive, Photos, Search, and Play.

It's a lightweight version, not the full version. Presumably Google wants to cut costs and doesn't want to release the full version.

> We’re releasing it initially with our lightweight model version of LaMDA

It's basically a pluggable Google Now with APIs. I think it's great.

It's not a Google "product", just a site. It's "Google Investor Relations".
