Apple is probably the worst FAANG for good content production. They seem only to invest in very well known artists which in turn produce entirely milquetoast content (Greyhound, For All Mankind, etc.). Good art pushes boundaries; crappy art is derivative.
Apple has very little original content, but few are really good. "For All Mankind" is top notch SciFi. "See" is interesting. "The Mornign Show" was surprisingly good although I'm not typical audience.
I always thought so too, but I would say that they are merely relatively good products.
Although I don't like the UI, the UX, and the cost, I always thought that Apple products are objectively good, i.e. they are stable. However, I've recently learned from others that that's not/no longer the case.
I like Apple products too. I listen to multiple podcasts that are pretty much Apple News/commentary. I like their privacy stance, design, etc. Even products I have no use for like the watch and iPad Pros blow my mind with their use cases especially for non-developers. Having a Unix-like terminal with stable and long-lasting hardware helped me as a young developer in college. Hardware has been hit and miss lately but they are slowly making a comeback... with some caveats.
I don't "like" Apple the company (neutral to negative depending on the news) because well, it's a company. The 30% forced cut is BS and its main result is worse apps for consumers and a worse experience for devs. I try to not be a fanboy or instinctively defend them. But yeah, in my 10+ years of being in the ecosystem, I am pretty happy.
I've come to respect the hell out of Apple and it's employees as of late.
I don't agree with everything apple does, and I don't actually use (or particularly like) any of their products, but I can't help but be very impressed.
It doesn't have to be "best in the world", just good enough and justifiable to themselves - many of the Apple in-house products kinda sucked when first released (I'm thinking of Apple Maps).
At the end of the day, Apple has always delivered far superior tools, frameworks, and ecosystem (development-wise). That to me says a lot more than how friendly the staff is.
They set an extremely high standard, but some do get through the cracks. The upside of that is we get to see some really fantastic apps being made, that meet Apple's expectations, which simply can't be done on other platforms.
If they didn't set the bar that high, a lot more junk would be getting through.
I think that in certain things like the Mac and iPhones that might be true. However last year’s iOS 13 really impressed me, especially the direction the iPad is going.
But AirPods and Apple Watch are certainly from Tim Cook’s Apple and I think they are outstanding products.
Yes, one of the hallmark traits of Apple and one of the reasons why I still sometimes can love them. A company that is willing to perfect their products, that doesn't go for new for the sake of new, that's really rare.
I hate many of their decisions, many of their views, but I think they always had and still have the right mix of iteration and innovation.
