I don't know about breaking stories anyone cares about, but sometimes they post stories I find interesting, just never about Apple

I think there's just too many stories about Apple. Apple always makes for intesting topics but other sites will always cover Apple... I go to Hacker News for the deeper, rarer stuff.

I'm an Apple fan, and I agree, stuff breaks. This is a non-news story.

Agree. Most stories that paint apple in an unfavourable light that I post never seem to go anywhere. Yesterday I saw this on the verge and posted it http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4222245 , to the sound of a deafening "meh".

I don't follow Apple news as I don't own or buy Apple products.

who cares what the headlines are saying? If Apple does, then that's just unfortunate.

Apple News is an unusual miss by Apple imo. It’s just not “Apple”, like everything else they do is.

The headlines I've seen on their Twitter feed are very compelling topics that I haven't seen covered anywhere else, e.g. news on what Scott Forstall has been doing since he left Apple. I haven't subscribed so I haven't read them so I can't vouch for the quality.

Well whatever the case, they get coverage because they know it will get attention and interest from people. They write whats gonna be read. Either thats people reading how bad the new Apple products are or how new and innovative they are.

After the 3rd mention of Apple before the story intro was completed, in an article that (by all appearances) isn't actually about Apple at all, I decided that this just isn't a news source worth reading.

Neither has Microsoft. I know people are interested in anything that has to do with Apple, but I'm still attempting to determine what makes this newsworthy.

Indeed. You never need to follow Apple news to get Apple news, Apple is perhaps the one company that all MSM loves to talk about.

And i attribute that to themselves being largely Apple users by force of habit.

It's likely because Apple doesn't want to be in the news when something like this happens. If that had been Apple, that would have been a bunch of news articles rather than an obscure blog post.

No it doesn’t. In case you haven’t noticed, headlines are not facts or analysis.

These are just opinion pieces, neither of which have any insight into what Apple cares about or does not care about.

Actually it does get brought up regularly. A lot of articles were written last year about how Apple itself fed stories to the Wall Street Journal, for example: http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/how_apple_does_contro...

In fairness, the day the iPad came out, 16 out of the 30 were Apple related. Most of the articles were rubbish, I really can't understand why people would upvote tbem. As somebody who at best doesn't care about Apple, and at worst despises what they are doing to computing (from a freedom point of view, that they're doing it with shiny things isn't hugely relevant to me), Apple news is all noise to me.

When so much of the stuff here is noise, it becomes pretty hard to just not click on an article I'm not interested in. There are no articles that I am interested in, but I still have assignments that I'd rather be procrastinating, you know?

I would agree with the GP. There is a disproportionate amount of Apple news here. I mean I know that's because people here find it interesting... I guess I'm feeling more and more disillusioned with this place in general. But when Apple actually do something, more stories are about Apple than not (it's not that big a deal when Apple release a product, is it? Lots of companies release products every day). And when Apple aren't releasing a product, there is still perpetually two to five articles on the front page that are Apple related when there is no Apple related news at all. Bah. I don't like it anyway. I understand where the GP is coming from.

It may be that everyone is tired of endless Apple-related discussions and speculations, based on virtually no 'official' information. Unfortunately, because Apple prefers to say nothing, everyone else on the internet thinks that their personal opinions are an adequate substitute. Although I don't bother to look at these stories myself, it may be that others have got tired of reading them.

I prefer to read positive and educational stories that appear on Hacker News, and stories that are unlikely to be noticed by many given their location - if people posted and commented on these more than on the latest speculation and gossip, or on stories from sites that already get more publicity than they deserve, Hacker News might be a more rewarding place for everyone...

Apple News?

Credit to the Bloomberg reporter.

Aside: Why is that popular Apple bloggers who claim to have inside sources are never able to break a story?

It's not interesting at all. It's not a technical article. Everyone is sick already of all this current Apple hype.
