Have you updated its firmware? Looks like there’s a new update available as of September 2023, which I haven’t installed yet but I’ve installed a couple before this one.

Not quite LineageOS for TVs but it’s something.

I'm using LineageOS 19 (with microG) on my Sony XA2 :) Well supported.

Or do you mean Sony's latest device releases? The open firmware program is only for the midrange devices like the Xperia 10 and XA series before that, and of course it depends on having a maintainer. And new devices take time.

Ultimately the custom ROM support for Sony phones is pretty lacking due to their tiny marketshare. For instance there are no official LineageOS builds for any of their recent releases.

A story going in completely different direction --

I have a Sony Xperia phone from 2017. It has stopped receiving OS updates after Android 8, and I don't use it any more other than occasionally as a backup phone. A while ago, I discovered that people on xda are putting LineageOS (a custom ROM based on AOSP) with Android 14 on it, tried that myself, and it works! As slow as the phone is, it can run apps without any problem. This is truly amazing.

LineageOS has sadly been falling behind on device support these days, not sure what's going on there. :/

That's a great little table you've built there, highly useful for finding new phones with LineageOS in mind, bookmarked! I wish I would've found it a week ago...

It seems that for support is not fully there yet for the XZ2 Compact, camera is still a work-in-progress, unfortunately: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz2/development/rom-...

But once that's sorted out I might be tempted to switch, or at the latest when I run out of official Sony updates.

Sorry maybe I'm missing something. A lot of the TVs are based on Android. LineageOS was able to remove the bloatware and create custom ROM for phones, what makes it so difficult to create similar custom ROMs for TV?

List of Samsung devices with LineageOs support: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/#samsung

I have an old Samsung S5 neo working perfectly with Lineage 17.1 eg Android 10.

There are recent updates from LineageOS for the S5 (multiple variants).

What's really a shame is that with each new version of LineageOS a lot of devices are dropped from being supported. I have some perfectly functioning devices (including a 2014 flagship device from Samsung), which will very likely stay stuck on LineageOS 14.1.

Apparently LineageOS works on some AndroidTV devices, including one that you can get at Walmart.

If you prefer Android devices, always seek out phones whose bootloader can be unlocked so that you can install another OS on it. This way, you can be assured of Android fork / ports being available for the phone even if the manufacturer stops releasing updates. I highly recommend Sony Open Devices - https://static.developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-s... ... Or checkout the list of supported devices that can run LineageOS (a popular fork of Android) - https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/

There are still updates from LineageOS.

I would actually pay to get LineageOS like upgrade on my now not so "smart" Android TV from 2015.

> LineageOS is also supported on the Xperia Z5 Compact.

There's also unofficial support for the more recent XZ1 Compact.

I've always wanted to try LineageOS on one of my older devices. But I always end up getting a device that never has Lineage support. I have a Samsung Note 4, Note 8, and now Note 20 Ultra. Meanwhile, support is for Note 3, 9, and 10.

And yet another time we learn why it is better to use Lineage OS. Five year old Samsung S3:

  Android: Version 7.1.2
Security Patch Level: 5th July 2017

What is the lineageos you use based on? What android version?

Just bought my significant other a new Android phone. I carefully picked the right device:

- Lineageos supported

- mainline linux 5.17 supported (except for the camera for now)

As a LineageOS OP3 user this is fascinating. Although presumably someone else picked this up as I'm still receiving updates.
