shillbots gonna shill. this is a blatant one, which means it's low-effort; here to stir the pot. the real agi-prop effort will be a repost bot with a real looking history.
Annoyingly they moved into shilling stupid AI ventures which is frustrating a AI has real, legitimate uses in its current form. Now we have a bunch of shills acting like we’ve achieved AGI if only you’d invest in their GPT chatbot
The linked twitter account is an AI influencer, so take whatever is written with a grain of salt. Their goal is to get clicks and views by saying controversial things.
This topic has come up before, and my hypothesis is still that GPT-4 hasn't gotten worse, it's just that the magic has worn off as we've used this tech. Studies to evaluate it have gotten better and cleaned up mistakes in the past.
As long as GPT is just a fancy bullshit generator that is able to make up convincing looking facts without having to worry about repercussions I will not trust its reasoning.
To be honest, I am a bit terrified. I'm not panicking yet, but it's not going to be all milk and honey.
One thing is certain: thousands or millions of people and companies will start creating GPT bots. Some will just download existing weights (like the recently leaked Meta LLAMA weights) and add a wrapper around them. Some will train new GPT bots from scratch. Some will hybridize them. Some will use a corpus of Library of Congress books to understand the world during the American Revolution. Some will use GPT bots to build worlds in Minecraft.
And then some will use GPT bots to scam people out of their life savings (actually they already started). Phishing and social engineering attacks will graduate to a whole new level.
As for propaganda and internet trolling and psy ops, what we've seen so far is absolutely nothing. Dictators around the world are salivating now.
And once bots get into learning how to manipulate humans... Well, if this does not terrify you, ... don't be surprised if you are a target.
It's not about killer robots. It's about fake reviews, fake tweets in support of some political opinion, more convincing viagra spambots. Also these bots are as racist, sexist and bigoted as the data they're trained on. It's not intelligent, but it's dangerous in the hands of humans. It's like raw fire without any safety measures.
At the very least, I hope that if they're going to make it open, it comes with similar filters built into GPT-3.
I wonder how many GPT-3 bots are running around already on HN and reddit (perhaps hooked up to PRAW) as experiments. It's very meta, since GPT-3 (GTP-2?) was partially/wholly trained on the reddit corpus of text. Very strange to think about. There are probably armies of sockpuppets already in the wild shoving various political agendas down people's throats.
Just watch as employees everywhere start using bots to keep their engagement stats up. Boards will start to have GPT generated fluff that drowns out any residual use those tools had.
It doesn’t need to be AGI to be dangerous. As argument, just consider how the next elections will be. GPT is at least a cannon for fake news. A fake News machine gun
It’s funny that the day after gpt was release there were already posts about how it started replacing people. Their marketing campaign is just crazy spam all over everywhere.
Not sure what a GPT bot is, or how my comment would resemble a post from a bot.
The parent commenter seemed to indicate buying Chromebooks, powerstrips, and vitamins to require secretive information when all of these things make sense (like Nintendo Switch's becoming rarer with millions of bored people in quarantine).
This comment reads like a GPT-generated comment! When I look at your history, your other comments seem genuine. I’m probably totally wrong, but I do like the idea of using GPT to counter anti-GPT sentiment. :)
you seeing this u/dang? GPT is a genie out of the bottle and it's an election year, so it's only going to get worse.
