I moved away from Apple because of their awful software.. their Podcast app was probably the worst one. Granted, I was stuck on iOS 7 because I had an iPhone 4, so maybe they stopped supporting it, but it was basically unusable.
Apple recently changed the podcast app and made it worse. I’ve lost many downloaded podcasts because they jammed in features at the expense of reliability.
I never understood why Apple made a podcast app, there were several really good ones in the store already matching a number of different tastes. Creating their own took away from the overall environment rather than adding to it.
The Apple podcast app has gotten continuously worse over the past few years, I'm excited to see that 3rd parties are picking up the slack, but I'm still pretty disappointed that Apple has neglected one of the most important aspect of the phone (for me, anyway).
Apples podcast iOS app is one if the worst apps I’ve used.
I’ve stuck with it since forever but dropped it recently. It’s slow and buggy and crashes and wastes disk space. Apples going to have to do better than that if it wants to play in the podcasting space.
Good lord, thank you for this thread. I stopped listening to podcast because apple's podcast app became insufferable. I had no idea there was an alternative like this. This app is amazing.
Thank you for pointing out this app! I've been looking for a podcasting app that isn't Apple's and doesn't require you to create an account and store stuff in the cloud. (I just want to access publicly available RSS feeds! How hard is that?)
And man, Apple's Podcast app is terrible. I can't believe how buggy it is, nor can I believe how awful the UI is. It's shocking how bad it is when I compare it to other Apple apps that I love (things like Logic and FCP). Even boring apps like Pages and Numbers are really well made. But they completely dropped the ball on Podcasts and Music. It's bizarre.
Apple completely ruined Podcasts. It wasn’t great in iOS 10, but its terrible in 11. For example, they removed play the next episode automatically. Now it just stops. WTF. Why wouldn’t i want to continue playing the next episode???
Interesting. The Podcasts app was a disaster when it was released. I honestly can’t imagine how it could have gotten worse.
I’ve been using Podcruncher since 2010. Manual downloads, no hiding episodes, custom playlists. All in a straightforward interface. It is amazing that Apple with its resources can’t deliver anything comparable.
Just the normal Podcasts app on iOS. It was good and then they broke it and it sucked but they've made it usable again… though the UI is still a confusing mess. I don't think anyone who develops that app at Apple is dogfooding it, at least not anyone in charge of its UI.
I've considered trying others now and then, but since they usually came down to paying a fee to find and resubscribe to all of the podcasts I'm already subscribed to, I could never get over the hump and switch to one full time.
What made me leave the iPhone ecosystem, many years ago, was when they pulled all the podcatchers off the app store because they were going to be adding podcast support to iTunes soon. Not only that but getting podcasts from iTunes at the time meant plugging your iPhone into your computer running iTunes, much less convenient than having your phone download things over WiFi. Especially since I was using Linux and didn't have a computer that could run iTunes.
Podcasts app from apple. So many complains but still better than any other competitor. Recently I tried Spotify for podcasts but I could not switch to it. I guess a super simple interface of the native Podcasts app and a few core options there make me stick around.
I left the Apple podcasts app once they changed the way they ordered episodes that I've not yet heard and lost my place on a number of podcasts. I was suggested the Overcast app and it took me three days to completely convert to it and delete the Apple app from my phone. I've even paid the annual subscription to turn off ads, which aren't noticeable anyway, just to support the developer for understanding how (I feel) people actually want to listen to podcasts.
