Yeah, I signed up for the free Kagi trial because of all the praise on here, and I think I've used it... twice? It felt exactly like DDG and Google. I think I just don't use search engines very often.
Many people switched to paid Kagi and swear by it. I wasn't impressed at all so didn't pay, then I ran out of free Kagi searches in a few days and switched back to DDG+Google.
I only switched to Kagi yesterday. So far so good, this search was a very good example.
I also tried DDG for a while but for me Google worked better.
Kagi is not a meta one, I believe, but I do not know much more. Yes, I got an invite some days ago. Maybe because I signed up for it a while ago, but I do not remember.
I do not mind paying for a search engine that actually works. I value my time. Google nowadays reminds me of Altavista back in the day. Lots of results but mostly irrelevant.
I'm a happy paying user... I almost never have to !g. I tried DDG before kagi, and it just seemed like a worse version of google to me. I definitely prefer the kagi results.
I last tried DDG a couple of years ago, so it may have improved. But I gave it a good hard try for several months, and I just kept finding instances where I couldn't find something that I knew should be out there. Then I switched back to Google and it was like a breath of fresh air, I was finding things easily again.
But I'd say with Kagi it's almost the opposite - it finds things at least as well and there aren't ads to get in the way. It feels like old-school Google.
I actually found that I was getting annoyed on my mobile devices because they were still searching on Google and I need to scroll past ads etc., before I recently switched them over.
Are the results really that much better? I use DDG and paying $10/mo for a search engine seems like a tall order, especially when I don't know if Kagi can be that much less broken than Google.
I've been using kagi the last 1.5 years after seeing it recommended here. It's been fantastic for me. I use it on all my devices and never use Google or DDG any more. It feels like old Google with more features. Unfortunately it's not free but they just today announced unlimited search for $10/month which for me is quite reasonable. I sometimes hit over 1000 searches per month (1532 is my record so far). Although it costs money I like knowing that kagi is the product, not me or my data m
Kagi is in fact better for me very frequently. I customized it to my liking and it shows better results than Google. Sure, I would be able to find the same content on Google, but that would require using keywords for site or file type.
With DDG I had anxiety that I am not finding the right results and would double check on Google too often. With Kagi this anxiety is gone - that’s a phenomenal accomplishment in my opinion.
But I used DDG for a few years prior and rarely ever used Google. I think DDGs results are subjective in that for some people they are better or as good than Google's.
I used DDG which was slightly better; but for a couple of months, I've switched to kagi, and it's been a revelation. It's much better than both, it's google from 15 years ago. Drawback is that unlimited searches needs a subscription (10$/months). But I personally think it worth for the time and focus gains.
Kagi’s been fantastic. I started using them out on principle, but it’s a legitimately good search engine. I almost never find myself going back to google, and when I do, Google’s usually not finding anything either.
I was using DDG exclusively for over a year. It gives way better results than Google. Recently I switched to Kagi, for its ability to prioritize my favorite sites, and block others. I'm paying $5 a month for it, and I've honestly not been this confident in the search results I'm getting for a long long time.
I had switched from Google to DDG years. DDG seemed to be marginally better at the time, but I really switched because DDG was not Google. Google had become annoying.
About six months ago I tried Kagi, then I signed up with them. Kagi delivers what I want: Fast, accurate search results that I can tweak. I'm a huge fan at this point.
The only time I don't use Kagi is if I'm running incognito over VPN, so I use another search engine (DDG or Bing) that I don't have to sign in to.
Kagi is even better than Google in my opinion. I’m still thinking whether I want to pay a subscription for it but it’s tempting since the results are so good. M
When I first switched from Google to DDG I found myself using g! all the time as I wasnt happy with the results, especially local such as finding a specific shop in my area etc. I dont recall using g! with Kagi, and when I was bored and compared the Kagi search result with Google to see if I was missing out, it turned to be the other way - I realised I was actually getting a much wider spectrum of results. I discovered many cool websites and blogs I never knew excited thanks to it or rather thanks to the fact that they show you what’s relevant to your search unlike Google that shows what they think is.
I had been using DDG for a while now and sometimes still fell back on Google for searches. I would say that Kagi so far has been as good as the Google of about 2-3 years ago.
The primary reason why I switched over is the argument "nothing is free". I am hoping that paying for a search service means they'll respect my privacy. I'm on a monthly plan so at the first whiff of controversy I'm out.
