The new voice mode has not rolled out yet. It's rolling out to plus users in the next couple weeks.

Also it's possible this is trained on mostly speech.

Voice is getting better. It's in beta right now. Both parties need to enable it in the settings right now. I tried it recently, and it worked quite well for the most part. They'll presumably iron out the issues before a general release.

The voice mode will be available in "a few weeks". So at the moment it's not using the end-to-end model but whisper->gtp-4o->tts

The Voice app on iOS went for years without an update, but it was updated fairly recently to match iOS 7 aesthetics.

I think the plan with Voice is to keep the functionality, but move it into the Hangouts product/app.

Only text and image input, text output have rolled out. Voice, image output have not.

We haven't yet officially released voice messaging but the feature stuck into this release. We'll correct the access on our next update (prior to it being announced). Thanks everyone.

Can anybody help me try the direct voice feature? I can't find the button for it. Maybe it's not available in Europe yet, I don't know.

If the carrier hasn't fucked with the defaults, you should be able to launch VoiceOver with a tripple-press on the home button. I don't know how it works with the new home-button-less devices, I dont have any of those.

Sounds like a UI bug/misfeature, rather than a voice feature.

Pretty cool, voices could use work, but I don't think anyone has solved this problem
