No I’m better; I possess the critical faculties to identify self-serving bullshit.

No it's just funny when a random person on internet claims that they are better because they "think critically". My point is, you are not a special snowflake. You are one of 500M that think that they are smarter than others. You are not.

Basically, you are just like a 4-year old begging for attention. You will get some, but unlike 4-year old, it will wane quickly. All the best!

You might be more confident than me in people's ability to discern BS. I think I am reasonably intelligent, but I get fooled all the time. Compounding the problem is that it is easier to fool someone than to tell him he has been fooled.

The smarter you are the better you are at justifying your own beliefs and decisions, even in the face of countering evidence and/or cognitive dissonance!

To be fair, I fool people into thinking I'm intelligent all the time.

I know, right? This clearly proves I am more special and intelligent and... aw, crap.

In all seriousness though, the constant contrarianness on display here is tiring. Not sure how else to put it.

I think you're misunderstanding me. If you replace "thinking you're better than everyone" with "being more knowledgable on a subject than everyone else," then I agree with your comments.

Do you honestly believe that you’re so much better then the average person? That you’ve unlocked some sort of increased intellectual ability that’s granted you access to The Secret? That you’re just…better than the lemmings?

Statistically speaking, you’re probably of about average intelligence and just have delusions of grandeur relative to “modern Americans”, perhaps based on a fundamental misunderstanding about their thoughts, intentions, and motivations. Do you really think that people “really really really despise” choice in the market? Frankly the most impassioned and vitriolic view…the one that I’d say involves “really really despising” something, or someone, is yours.

If you’re really successful at bullshitting, it means you’re not hanging around enough people smarter than you.

People with high IQ's are often better at fooling themselves.

I have found: The smarter I think I am, the dumber I behave.

Not smarter, just better-informed.

Again with the mentalist act. Clearly others know more about me than I do. Again, I submit to a superior intellect.

I think it’s just that the smarter you are, the more likely you give nuanced answers.

It’s called epistemological humility but I’m sure you’ll just assume I’m an asshole.

The important thing is that you've figured out a way to think you're smarter than the people who think they're smarter than they are...

If you were significantly more intelligent than the mean, you would recognize the irrelevance of your anecdotes.

People are smarter than me.

My genius mostly lies in concealing how dumb I actually am.

Clever and informed people simply have better tools to defend their biases. Auto-gaslighted high-intelligence individuals are more common (in my experience) than not.

Intelligence is no defence against delusion, in fact its the other way around.

We find that bullshit ability is associated with an individual’s intelligence and individuals capable of producing more satisfying bullshit are judged by second-hand observers to be more intelligent.

Oh, that explains a lot.
