To be fair, Other M was developed by a different studio. To keep my sanity, I regard it as non-canonical.

sort by: page size:

All the previous MI games are canon to the new one, although the whole MI canon isn't exactly very strict in the first place anyway.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Another_Eden was recently released in English, from the same creator of Xenogears / Chrono Cross / Chrono Trigger.

Except that each iteration of the MB franchise actually added changes to gameplay.

Still marketing SMT. Interesting move.

Not sure what I'd get out of this over playing the original in ScummVM.

Why not make a new game in the same style, with a new story?

No, that was not the case and this is not MV3.

Ha I see, I did not realize this was coming from CAPCOM-L and was confused

Interesting, I always thought they try to be a faithful port. In what ways do they differ?

AH, I see

Looks from the icon like it's the same franchise, not sure. But yeah, different idea for sure

M.U.L.E. Returns will be a modern, faithful remake, officially licensed: http://mulereturns.com

The release date has been pushed back repeatedly and should be any day now. Apparently making software is hard.

I can't wait. When playing M.U.L.E. on the C64, I've never was able to get four people together. Now I've got a second chance.

The latest installment is something else entirely with the Thief name slapped on it. It's not even the same studio.

It is a little loosey-goosey, but I understand* there's now 2 timelines, which I'm going to come up with some arbitrary labels for:

- 1, 2, Return <- "Gilbert Canon" or, "OVA"

- 1, 2, Curse, Escape, Tales <- "Extended Canon", "Guybrush Universe", "Guybrush Muyou"

A little bit of Curse is going into Return, which is the loosey goosey part**. Memorable characters/gags, and less the events of Curse.

* Full disclosure, I haven't played Tales, or Return yet.

* *Well, also PC gaming is a thing in the MI universe, and pirates are shilling LOOM in the SCUMM bar.

No, that was a different developer.

Holy mackerel.

VCMI looks like it's at parity with the original game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4WWRrh-KIc

Personally, it's just interesting to see the original creator start such a port. Especially when the original creator is of the calibur that Carmark is.

They are probably right. But an exception seems to be night dive studios:

Also my current favourite remake is wipeout phantom

Well it's not a remake really!

There’s a newer game in the franchise that recently came out.

It's even more limited than MV3, let alone MV2

That tweet is interesting because it specifically mentions CMI (but as MI3 rather than CMI which may be a tell, but also not saying anything about EMI or Tales), so the canon may still "break". But also it's a series whose canon is kind of loose anyway, so the tweet doesn't entirely answer the question of how it is keeping MI3 in "canon" given his statements years ago that he didn't think it possible. (But he's had two years of development on this project, so it sounds like there was time to solve it, while getting paid to solve it.)

But very interesting Ron is claiming it is not a hard-fork (anymore), at least.
