The server was misconfigured (KeepAlive) and couldn't handle the load. It's been fixed now.

Application server is busy. Either there are too many concurrent requests or the server still is starting up

Apparently scaling is hard too.

the server is overloaded. we were not expecting this kind of traffic.. we are working on it now (we should be sleeping, midnight in scandinavia! :)

Knowing the dev behind the site, he got 11k connections, the RAM finished and the server went down.

It must be a pretty stressful coding session now.

Should be fixed now. One of the servers went down and was struggling to restart under the increased load.
