SkyDrive support, please. I use it since it integrates into Windows so well, and especially Office 2013. It also helps that my account is old enough that I have 25GB free storage.

I don't trust Dropbox security wise. Google does so many product launches/retirements that I don't trust anything beyond search and Chrome to stay around.

I love Skydrive. It's the best of Dropbox combined with the best of Google Docs (even better, you get to use Office), and it all works so seamlessly I forget that I'm even using it. Maybe that's why nobody's talking about it, because it's not causing us any pain. Not to mention, it's decently cheaper than the other options and is well-integrated into all the devices I tend to use. The only pain point I still have (and nobody has solved this) is that both my wife and I have Live accounts, and we'd like to have a shared quota, with some private folders. For now we just log into the same account until a better solution is available.

I'm not using it to store racy pictures or my social security numbers, so I'm not too concerned with privacy implications; there's no privacy to be had online anyway. But given it integrates seamlessly with Office, OneNote, iOS (mostly), Windows, Android, Xbox, and the web, I have nothing to complain about. Like I said, it works so well I forget I'm even paying for it, which is the best kind of service.

Uh, they have a dropbox-like client coming out soon. Also, I far prefer their web interface to dropbox's. I see no reason to continue using dropbox once skydrive client comes out.

...unless you're on linux :)

Skydrive is also quite useless with file restrictions like no files over 50mb. Why not just use Dropbox?

I'm already migrating away from Dropbox, after using a pro account for years. They lost my business.

Why? The competitors are better and have more features. SkyDrive integrates tightly with my OneNote, XBox music, Office suite, email and everything else I need. It has features Dropbox doesn't. And it's a better deal.

I don't regret using Dropbox. Not for a second. God knows I've talked them up to all my friends. But performance with them got a bit sketchy and better options are now available.

I have been loving Office 2013. SkyDrive is fantastic for keeping my notes and documents automatically synced between my desktop and laptop. While DropBox can do the same thing, it's a bit smoother when it's integrated right into the app. Also I think it looks much nicer than 2010, but that's personal opinion.

You might still be able to download the free preview version from here http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/en

It should work for 60 days after 2013 came out. It should give you a good idea if you like it or not.

Also, even just thinking about using Skydrive on my Ubuntu netbook is painful. Dropbox is truly cross-platform and painless.

I'm pretty happy with Google Drive (except for the unwanted filesharing "exploit") and have never liked Dropbox ever

Microsoft has an app for Windows and for Mac OS X that integrates SkyDrive with the local OS

So, no Linux? Then SkyDrive is no threat to Dropbox, at least to my household.

This is quite tempting, but the Google Drive client is just too terrible. I've never once had a single problem with the Dropbox client. Ever.

It's dangerous for Dropbox because GDrive will be automatically integrated into all Google services. I can access it anywhere from any Google service or device. No need to think about uploading, downloading, copying, pasting--it's just there. I don't use GDocs because it's the best.

I use it because all my friends use Gmail and sharing docs with them is super easy. I see GDrive having the same benefits. Sharing on Dropbox still isn't as easy as it should be. I've been trying to convince my girlfriend to sign up for a Dropbox accounts since we started dating, but no luck. With Gdrive, she will never need to.

That said, success is still not guaranteed. MS has had SkyDrive for years and I have no idea what the market penetration numbers are, but I'm sure they aren't good. Hotmail is no Gmail. I had no problems convincing a bunch of people to switch to Gmail, but only got one person to sign up for Dropbox.

Question. Do you actually use Dropbox ? Because for me it is one of the most overrated services I use. They haven't actually done anything new to the product since the beginning and the CPU load when syncing is still ridiculously high.

IMHO The only reason Dropbox is successful because the alternatives e.g. SkyDrive, Google Drive are so much worse.

Very true..same here...Dropbox is just awesome, +1 for it's usability!!

I wasted my entire day trying to install 'Google drive' on my Windows 7 machine. It was throwing installation error 1603. What the heck is that!!

I tried many solutions searching web (e.g. giving all permissions to %AppData% folder, uninstalling all existing google products etc) but all in vain!! Google...why do you make such creepy s/w?

It is very hard for DropBox to compete against the free file storage offerings like Google Drive.

iCloud and OneDrive are integrated into the operating system now too, too.

I recently downloaded MS Office 10 Beta and there's an option to save files directly to Skydrive which has 25GB free.

I started having second thoughts about using Dropbox after this, the only advantage in using Dropbox (for me) is the iphone app. Although I haven't used either Skydrive or Dropbox to share files, which may be where Dropbox comes into its own.

I am also using skydrive for few years now. All I can say that I am very happy. I keep my active codebase folder synced with skydrive and I am worry free from any loss. All my new code changes gets saved into cloud as soon as I hit "Save".

Recently, MS released a skydrive explorer and drop-off folder which makes it more good. It crashes one in a while but not a big deal. It is stuck with one of my login.aspx.vb and never sync it. I don't know why.

It created multiple versions of my few .docx files with my machine name appended but I think MS will fix it over time.

Does the success of skydrive means slow death for dropbox and box.net? I seriously think dropbox should start some other business may be integration with FB was the step in that direction but the feature is not outrageously great.

I would like to add, the service provider that has built software for MAC, IOS, Windows, Linux and Android might be a better choice as well. I do like both Google Drive and Dropbox, but Google can't even make the time to support Linux and obviously can, so would you trust them when they have motives other than a universal storage device. Heck, even Ubuntu One does this well.

I wouldn't say that.

Dropbox is good because is ridiculously simple. I've been using Windows 8 + Skydrive full time and well, it's not a sunshine.

It's buggy, and just upload files (not folders) and I don't believe it will get so much better after the official launch.

And yes, Dropbox is probably screwed. I've been using SugarSync just because it gives me more free space.

If google drive is just as good as dropbox, well, you know the drill.

I do. I used to use Google Drive but then Google renamed the PC app and discontinued it and rather trying to figure out what I have to use instead I just said screw it and grabbed Dropbox. Plus many apps I want to use are integrated into Dropbox far better than anything else so it makes using it as a storage area for multiple apps and devices super easy.

I just wish it had a good encryption option like SpiderOak.

Dropbox has the most number support for integrations

Gdrive has some really backwards folder integration and Ive been told inferior API compared to dropbox from developers who have used it

Dropbox handles complex folder structures easily compared to gdrive and other services

Dropbox came first as well

Dropbox gives you exactly what you put into it. Gdrive and onedrive this is not the case. More so onedrive if anything it feels close to PUPware since it forces itself in the OS. Gdrive integrates automatically with google services, giving you less refined control over folder structures.

Theres many cloud software solutions out there but have you tried putting them under stress tests? They have always given me problems (e.g. high CPU usage , long sync times, no revision history, lack of integration to common applications such as wordpress, forced integrations on install, poor UX UI upfront on website, poor mobile integration, lack of easy sharing and collab). I think users who consider cloud storage a commodity dont put high valuation on their data (e.g. users who think cloud software A is better than dropbox because its cheaper per GB storage). Its like going to the grocery store and buying the cheapest meat possible(ground beef), stating there all nutritionally similar, and missing the point on key differences on higher quality meat / taste.
