Isn't this always the case with acquisitions though?

Doesn't this almost always happen with mergers and acquisitions?

Except acquisitions work out just as often as they don't.

I've seen this happen multiple times. It is by far the most common "acquisition" in my experience.

You do realize acquisitions occur?

It seems like that is the default case for acquisitions with just about any company, and ones where more interesting stuff happens with the acquired company are not the norm.

May be because collaborations often turn into an acquisition.

Don't some number of acquisitions count as this more or less?

acquisitions are always hard

Acquisitions don't happen exclusively because a company is buying out someone who is better than them.

Sometimes they happen so a company can buy out someone so they won't have the chance to become better than them and a serious competitor.

Weren't they all acquisitions?

Really? Those aren't acquisitions?

That is not how acquisitions work.

Do these type of transactions ever end up well for either the acquirer or the acquired company?

All acquisitions though.

Ah right. Acquisition. That makes more sense

This seems to be pretty specious reasoning which has at its heart the principle that acquisitions are the final goal, not a functioning enterprise. I think the acquiring companies would tend to disagree.

Not necessarily true. A lot of acquisitions are 'acquihires' meaning they were bought just for their talent capital.

Acquisitions always ruin the thing being acquired.

Depends on the acquisition, several have went well.
