I agree, it looks more like an actual product, more polished and professional. People need to lighten up a little bit. Rock Star aside, I think the site looks pretty nice.
no I think its just the overall design. Perhaps the opening page shouldn't be a blatant "here are some cool things you can do" -- rather if you see flickr or twitter or facebook's front page, its usually an "About" sort of thing or login, y'know?
My thoughts exactly. It's easy for them to say it's about the design after the fact.
I'm much more inclined to think it has to do with their market, connections, and blog coverage.
Also, the design suffers from a lack of whitespace (feels crowded) and overuse of color. The landing page is way too loud, I have a hard time getting through it.
Layout seems like it needs a lot of work. Comes across as very... well, 1990s if you ask me. I mean, I don't expect something as pleasant to look at as say, Medium, but a site with at least a better colour scheme would work wonders here.
And the security stuff... yeah, that needs fixed too. Kind of surprised this wasn't thought about.
Not just you. All I see is mostly a Dribbble feed, so I can’t really connect these random shots to the alleged purpose of the site: “top digital products and trends in design”
Overall, I think it's gorgeous, especially the page layout stuff. I don't like the logos especially, but having a "branded house" approach makes a lot of sense for uniting the disparate sites.
that's actually one thing that I don't like about it. it looks like every other generic corporate website or Wordpress template, and certainly nothing like the forums I remember.
The site had a nice look overall. The pattern in the header drop-shadow is kind of cool, but more distracting because it looks like it is being accidentally covered up and a bit busy.
I agree with what others have said regarding the color scheme being a bit too tan overall.
I also keep looking at the logo and thinking that is a bit too busy, and I don't really understand why it has the floral shapes emerging from it.
The beveling on the image frames also feels a bit heavy, especially with the dark drop shadow.
In general the imagery and the copy take a bit of analysis before getting a handle on what the company is about, and even then I am not sure why I should choose you for my vacation planning.
The idea there is to feature more than just articles, so the user can submit designs, too. I'm not sure that'll stay or not, it's just an attempt to appeal to the visual person a bit more.
Re: overwhelming - Yeah, I agree, I've tried to keep everything toned done as much as possible, but there's probably still too much visual noise.
- More clutter
- Less clean
- Congested, as in a little border would have done no harm.
- Looks loud but maybe that's just Instagrammatical.
- For me, at least, the home page takes longer to load.
- Maybe earlier they had the site built for photographers and now they have made it for everyone
- just like lady Mayer said.
