I think the politicians here are just trolling for campaign cash and other favors in kind. When Google greases the right palms the spotlight will shift elsewhere.

Google is heavily involved in politics. You seem to be under the impression that they stay out of it but that isn't the case.

So a bunch of senators are shaking down Google for a campaign contribution, eh.

It would not surprise me if Google actually was taking action. They've been known to chime in on national politics here and there.

No troll. I’m just pointing out that google only seems to promote one kind of politics, and it’s clearly causing polarization.

This has been going on for over a year now. A lot of astroturfing coupled with misinformation criticizing predominantly US-based incumbents. I think there are a few mods with a political agenda who are pushing this. Often the advertised replacement is an inferior product that doesn't even provide better privacy or securty than Google or whatever is being criticized. Interesting time to live in.

No, they want the audience google brings. They just want a share of googles profits, riding the anti google sentiment, google got for other things. Classic politics.

I don't imagine that Google is encouraged by this development. It will be interesting to see how this affects their appeal politically speaking.

This is political theatre. Goverment is a preferential customer for Google (and others).

I wonder if Google has the proper Party connections to keep this mischief going — I suspect with the shenanigans they're playing they either don't or don't care about keeping them. There appear to be too many forces against them for this to keep up for much longer.

That's a coverage artifact - if Google is manipulating politics in favor of democrats, then the only coverage you'll find is going to be on the center to the right wing platforms. American media in all its glory.

Is that a comment about Google or Politicians

It’s not both sides, it’s just more control of the online advertising industry.

Google should be broken up over this type of behaviour. Spend too much money in Washington though.

Why are there so many people shilling for Google with this "coalition"?

I do not work for them. This is something I noticed over the years: as Google ran into more and more obstacles in the US that are political the more they seem to have started to meddle. Maybe it's because this is easier, but maybe it's to protect themselves.

These companies don't push themselves into politics everywhere (yet), but I'm sure that the more governments squeeze them the more they'll get involved.

they are lobbying because they see anything Google proposes as a direct long term threat to their business model.

It's starting to seem like there's an orchestrated anti-Google media campaign under way. I wonder who's behind it?

I think you underestimate how political Google has become internally.

My educated guess is that Political campaigns dumped a ton of money into Google and Google is whitelisting their trash

It seems to be okay for google to get political, lobbying politicians and writing them cheques in the premise of getting backhand favours.
