Why?

(I'm curious as I know little of these kinds of things, and because citing sources or giving arguments is always a good thing)

sort by: page size:

Quite a strong statement to make, not one that I know enough about to argue either way.

Do you have any references you could link to to back up your statement? I’m genuinely curious what you’re referencing.

It seems like it'd be useful for one or both of you to cite any research than has been done on this.

Seems more productive (and enlightening to all) than the agree/disagree dialogue here.

I found your argument cogent though without sources to back it up, hard to believe. I do not know why you are being downvoted though.

Would it be possible to include sources around what you are claiming?

That’s a very compelling thesis statement. I’m looking forward to the discussion here.

What criticisms of your argument are you anticipating, if any?

Thank you!

It just seems so obvious to go to google, stackoverflow etc... So I thought I would try an essay / extra credit answer.

I have been debating this issue with myself for quite a while now. You couldn't be more right.

Citation, please?

And how does this point (if true) factor into the broader discussion being made?

Your comment would be more interesting and constructive if you you provided information (ideally with references) rather than asking rhetorical questions.

As it is, I don't really know what point you are trying to make.

An interesting opinion...do you have any evidence or citations (in either direction)?

Do you want to provide some cites for this line of reasoning.

Fair enough, thanks for the references. My previous comment was merely intended to be anecdotal, not trying to invoke arguments :)

It might be helpful if you could offer citations for that. I find it hard to judge these competing claims

Are you sure? This is a recurring theme in your arguments but I don't necessarily agree with you.

What are the reasons for you to think that?

Thank you for an actually well reasoned response with citations. You haven't persuaded me yet but I'll go and have a good read.

Can you say more about why? I think I know what you're getting at, but since you've talked with a lot of people I'd love to hear your broader take. (If you can't talk here, please do email me.)

I've been interested in this argument for some time. Does anyone have any additional sources here?

Can you give a brief explanation of the justification? I googled for the paper, and had difficulty finding the original or citations.

You state your opinion as facts, but forget to give an argument. The least you could do is provide a reference.

Prima facie, I don't find your view plausible at all.

Could you please post a citation for this? I do not know if you are right or wrong, and it is not something I have considered before, but I would appreciate the opportunity to learn what arguments were made at the time.

Would you mind sharing the references underlying your points?

(This isn’t ‘citation required’ snark - I’m genuinely interested.)
