Dropbox is really awesome. I'm very impressed with how well they execute. Lots of companies big and small have offered the same basic service, but nobody has built a product nearly as good.
Dropbox is one of the best software/services I ever used. Think on this: they competitors are Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Pen drives, FTP, etc, and they succeed! This seems really difficult to me, to build a huge service on a very hostil business. They are more alive than ever, and it's not because they are lucky, it's because these guys are really really competent.
Dropbox is the best startup to rise in the last few years. In terms of startups I use that have actually changed the way I use computers in a huge way, it is right up there with Facebook. It is one of the services that I simply could not imagine living without, now that I know it exists.
If you haven't used it, or are still on the free plan, you really should try it out and buy at least 50gb. Stick all your most important files in there, and forget about that annoying thing called "backups".
This made me chuckle. Dropbox was one of the least creative or original startups I know. But it was born out an immediate unfulfilled need and a subsequent deep fury, and then executed and refined insanely. Before and since Dropbox there have been many, many attempts to fill this space, but their execution has been phenomenal.
I signed up for Dropbox maybe 2+ years ago, the onboarding was pretty good then so it seems like they've been doing it well and improving from there at the very least.
